Seeking (all roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted) unless otherwise specified):

Casting notes: All actors must have an accurate Irish accent. This is a peasant drama; the characters are earthy and unrefined.

Moses Barron:

20s, but “already quite old…His personality is amazingly vital.” Smart, mature, good-sense of humor.

Lizzie Brennan:

18. Sweet, naïve, very warm. “She is a placid little thing, better-clothed and better-fed than any of the others.”

Daisy Barron:

Mid 50s. “She is a big, floppy, untidy woman.” Requires a skilled comedienne (but not a ham!).

Ned Cooney:

50-65. Burly, unhealthy-looking man, slightly lame. “He has a disagreeably would-be-pleasant manner which gives the impression of insincerity.”

Jim Slattery:

40-55. Fanatic with an “air of brooding intensity”. Thin and dark.

Father O’Brien:

40-60. Ineffectual and not especially clever. “A well-meaning man, but thinks that is all he need be.”

The following roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.

Michael Donovan:

CAST. Mid 30s - early 40s. Gaunt, with a meditative air; toil-worn and aged beyond his years.

Min Donovan:

CAST. Mid 30s. Quick and fierce temper, sharp tongue. Her beauty has been dimmed by hardship. “She may be full of despair. She is never merely depressed.”

Maggie Cooney:

CAST. About 50. Reverent and meditative woman: smart, instinctive.
