A new musical.
Seeking:
Mrs. Madrigal:
Caucasian female, 50s – 60s. Mysterious, fun, magisterial yet down to earth proprietress of 28 Barbary Lane. Wise, warm, compassionate --- but also blunt and no B.S., with a ribald sense of humor. Views her tenants as her children. MADRIGAL is transgendered: she used to be a haunted man, now she is a fully realized woman, though still searching for love and trying to put the pieces of her fractured family back together. SEEKING dynamic women and/or actual transgendered actors/actresses. STRONG SINGER/ various ranges OK.
Edgar Halcyon:
Caucasian male, 50s – 60s. The blue-blooded founder, owner and head honcho of Halcyon Advertising. A self-proclaimed son-of-a-bitch, he is sharp, no-nonsense, and at the top of the pyramid in the pantyhose world. A dire medical diagnosis leads him to some unlikely places looking for solace, affection, and a reinvention of what --- and who --- it means to love. BARITONE.
Beauchamp Day:
Caucasian male, late 20s – late 30s. Very charming, very good-looking--- and very married --- object of the heroine’s affection. Knows how to use what he’s got to get what he wants sexually and otherwise, with women and with men. A sexy wasp with a sharp sting. BARITONE/BARITENOR. Actor should be able to dance very well, particularly the tango and waltz.
Jon Fielding:
Male, 28 - 35; an impossibly likeable dreamboat. Handsome, charming, intelligent but down-to-earth doctor for whom the character MOUSE falls head over heels. Not a slick-ster; just a genuinely good, funny and successful guy who happens to be a knockout. JON is looking for a partner who is a grown up, not a cute young kid who enters a wet jockey shorts contest at a local bar to make his rent. BARITENOR/TENOR. Actively seeking actors of color for this role.
Mother Mucca:
60’s +; a crusty old broad with the mouth of a trucker and the singing voice of Ethel Merman. A ball-busting force of nature (and Mrs. Madrigal’s long-estranged mother) whose run a successful brothel in the middle of the desert for most of her adult life. If Ruth Gordon and Granny Clampett had a daughter …. she wouldn’t last two minutes in the ring with Mother Mucca. ALTO WITH STRONG BELT.
Lionel:
Early – mid 20s. Asian-American. Adorable, cute, maybe even hot delivery boy who delivers more than just the groceries. Actor plays many other small roles. Looking for knockout singing voices for this role.
Older Man:
Caucasian. Late 40s – early 60s. Baritone. Plays a number of featured roles, from a hopelessly snooty “A-gay” who throws lavish dinner parties and hits on all the cute boys, to MOUSE’s small-town, conservative Dad who hopes his son is staying away from ‘these San Francisco fruits’. Great comic timing and ability to create different characters convincingly.
Older Woman:
Caucasian. Late 40s- 60. Solid alto. Character woman to play a number of small roles.
Young Woman 1:
Caucasian. Late 20s – mid 30s. Soprano with rocking belt. Plays a number of featured roles, including Connie Bradshaw, a former Mid-western girl now cutting a hard-partying, single gal swath through 1970’s San Fran.
