6-minute audition slots. Performers may audition with material from one or more of the season’s shows. Performers may also prepare a brief song of their choice. SpeakEasy suggests two 16-bar selections, one up-tempo and one ballad. An accompanist, readers, and material from the scripts will be available at the auditions. 2010-2011 Season Musicals with available roles:

StriKing 12

Book, Music & Lyrics by Brendan Milburn, Rachel Sheinkin, and Valerie Vigoda.

Director: TBA. Music Director: José Delgado.

Dates: December 8, 2010 - January 2, 2011.

Striking 12 is a pop/rock/folk musical concert. Each actor plays multiple roles.

Brendan/Narrator One: CAST. Male, 20s-30s. MUST play keyboard. Main authority among players and knows it. Plays The Man Who’s Had Enough, a grumpy New Yorker who wants to be alone on New Year’s Eve. Not mean, just a little shut down.

This role has already been cast. Any auditions for this role will be considered only as an understudy or replacement if necessary.


Valerie/Narrator Two: Female, 20s-30s. MUST play electric violin, strong pop-rock voice. A more natural authority, cool, engaging, helpful, emotionally mature. Very aware of what is going on, and gets everyone back on track. Also plays the S.A.D. Light Seller, the modern-day Little Match Girl, who goes door to door selling full spectrum holiday light-bulbs that combat Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Gene/Narrator Three: Male, 20s-30s. MUST play drums. A classic musician, more mischievous, goes back and forth between being into the show and making fun of it. Plays Jack, a friend of The Man. Not terribly angst-ridden. Very enthusiastic about his New Year’s Eve party, even if it’s not the most exciting one in town.

NINE

Book by Arthur Kopit, Music & Lyrics by Maury Yeston,

Director: Paul Daigneault. Music Director: TBA. Choreographer: David Connolly.

Dates: January 21 - February 26, 2011.

Guido Contini: Male, 40+, baritone. A famous Italian film director. Married to Luisa, lover to Carla and many in the past. Torn apart by his career, his past, and the powerful women in his life.

Luisa Contini: Female, mid-30s-40s, mezzo/belt. Guido’s wife. Finally fed up with Guido’s philandering and is intending to get a divorce. Italian.

Carla: Female, late 20s-early 30s, mezzo/belt. Guido’s mistress. She is married but will leave her husband for Guido if he gets a divorce.

Claudia: Female, 30s, mezzo. The actress. Guido’s former protégée, and former lover. Guido wants her in his next film. Italian.

Liliane La Fleur: Female, 50s-60s, female. Guido’s producer who wants his next film to be a musical. She was the former star of the famous Folies Bergeres. French.

Lina Darling: Female, 20s, mezzo. La Fleur’s accomplice.

Guido’s Mother: Female, 50s-60s. She appears to Guido and offers him advice and guidance as well as showing up in flashbacks. Italian.

Stephanie Necrophorus: Female, 30s, alto/mezzo. A critic who has been harsh on Guido’s previous films. Trying to help him write this current movie.

Sarraghina: Female, 30s-40s, mezzo/belt. A prostitute Guido visits as a child to learn about love and women. Italian.

Our Lady of the Spa: Female, soprano, ageless. Works at the Fontane Di Luno Spa. Italian.

Young Guido: Male, 8 to 10 years old, boy soprano. Guido as a child, as well as the inner voice for Guido.

Ensemble: a variety of vocal types. Italian and German admirers of Guido.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE

Book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, Music & Lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison.

Directed by Paul Daigneault. Music Director: TBA. Choreographer: David Connolly.

Dates: May 6 - June 4, 2011.

Man in Chair: Male, 25-45 tenor. Musical theatre aficionado who mourns the end of the Golden Era. His recording of “The Drowsy Chaperone” brings the show to life as he narrates.

This role has already been cast. Any auditions for this role will be considered only as an understudy or replacement if necessary.

The Drowsy Chaperone: Female, 35-60, alto (F3-D5). Janet's alcoholic confidante, played by well-established stage actress Beatrice Stockwell.

Janet Van de Graaff: Female, 25-35, alto/mezzo (G3-Eb). The famous bride, played by rising star Jane Roberts. She is giving up show business for love.

Robert Martin: Male, 28-40, tenor (C3-Ab4). The dashing, ever-cheerful groom, played by matinee-idol Percy Hyman. Token 1920's Leading Man character.

George: Male, 25-35, tenor (F3 - Bb4). Robert's anxious best man.

Adolpho: Male, 25-45, Bass/Baritone + great falsetto (A#2 - G4). European self-proclaimed “ladies man”, played by former silent movie star Roman Bartelli. Latin Lothario. In the song “Adolpho”, the high notes can be sung colla voce (falsetto). The lower notes are more of a character voice.

Mrs. Tottendale: Female, 35-60, alto (G3 - Db5). The air-headed hostess of the wedding.

Underling: Male, 35-65, tenor (Ab2 - G4). Mrs. Tottendale's savvy butler.


Mr. Feldzieg: Male, 30-45, baritenor (Db3 - Db4). Broadway producer, played by Jack Adler.


Kitty: Female, 18-30, Soprano (Bb3 - F5). Feldzieg's dim-witted companion, played by Sadie Adler.

Trix: Female, 25-40, alto (Ab3 - Eb5).The brave and brash female aviator. Voice of a diva.


Gangster #1: Male, 25-45, tenor (Db3 - Gb4). Posing as pastry chefs, intending to collect from Feldzieg, played by the vaudeville duo the Tall Brothers.

Gangster #2: Male, 25-45, tenor (Db3 - Gb4). Posing as pastry chefs, intending to collect from Feldzieg, played by the vaudeville duo the Tall Brothers.
