Please prepare a brief contemporary monologue. Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back.
Place no time or place; the show is in the theatre in which it is being performed. In this contemporary and irreverent adaptation of Chekhov’s THE SEAGULL, an aspiring young theatre director named Conrad struggles to get out from under the shadow of his mother Emma, a famous actress. Meanwhile, his young muse Nina falls for Emma’s lover Doyle, and everyone discovers just how disappointing love, art, and growing up can be.
Seeking (all roles are available unless otherwise specified):
Conrad Arkadina: Man, 20s-30s. Fierce and fiery young author, poet, performance creator. In love with Nina.
Emma Arkadina: Woman, 40s-50s. Conrad’s mother, a very famous actress of stage and screen.
Doyle Trigorin: Man, 40s-50s. Famous author, very popular. Emma’s lover.
Nina Zachery: Woman, 20s. Aspiring actress. Emma and Conrad’s neighbor. Beloved of Conrad.
Dev Dylan: Man, 20s-30s. Conrad’s best childhood friend. Totally in love with Mash.
The following roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.
Dr. Borne: CAST. Man, 60s. Close family friend of Emma’s and Conrad’s
Mash Amberson: CAST. Woman, 20s-30s. Conrad’s cousin. Dr. Borne’s daughter? Totally in love w/Conrad.
