Prepare a brief Rodgers and Hammerstein song showing range. Please bring sheet; accompanist provided. For non-singing roles, prepare a short monologue. Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

Seeking:

Emile de Becque:

Caucasian male, 40 - 55. A wealthy, cultured and dignified French plantation owner with grit and glamour who falls in love with Nellie. Strong Baritone (Opera singers are encouraged to attend). LEAD

Nellie Forbush:

Caucasian female, mid 20s - 40. An optimistic and simple Navy nurse from Little Rock, Arkansas who falls in love with Emile. Must have great subtle comic timing. Strong Mezzo. LEAD

Lieutenant Joe Cable:

Caucasian male, 18 - 30. A young, formal and good-looking officer who falls in love with Liat. Must be masculine and believable as a member of the Army. Soaring Tenor (E3 to G4). STRONG SUPPORTING

Bloody Mary:

Female, Tonkinese, 35 - 55. A shrewd souvenir dealer who is also trying to find her daughter a rich husband. Brassy, sexy, charactery. Must have great subtle comic timing. Strong Mezzo. STRONG SUPPORTING

Luther Billis:

Caucasian male, 30 - 45. A shlubby, mediocre entrepreneur, friend to all and a man with a lust for ladies. A very lovable character. Must be funny, masculine and believable as a member of the Army. Strong baritone. STRONG SUPPORTING

Captain George Bracket:

Caucasian male, 40 - 60. A pompous yet competent officer who hides a heart of gold. Strong actor. Does not sing. SUPPORTING *Prepare a brief monologue.

Commander Harbison:

Caucasian male, 35 - 50. Officious Navy man. Bracket's second-in-command and right-hand man. Strong actor. Does not sing. SUPPORTING. *Prepare a brief monologue.

Liat:

Tonkinese female, 18 - 25. Heartbreakingly delicate, beautiful and the picture of purity. Must move well. Does not sing. SUPPORTING. *Prepare a brief monologue.

Stewpot:

Caucasian male, 25 - 35. A funny, shlubby character man with a strong tenor singing voice (up to high A). One of the Sailors and Luther Billis' cohort. SUPPORTING

Professor:

Caucasian male, 25 - 35. A funny character man of the studious type. One of the Sailors and Luther Billis' cohort. Strong singer. SUPPORTING

Jerome:

Male, age 7 to 9. Latino, Asian, Pacific-American, African-American or multi-ethnic to play the child of a Caucasian father and a Maori mother. Must sing, act and have a comfortable stage presence. Smart child who adores his father. Must be able to learn French phrases. SUPPORTING

Ngana:

Female, age 9 to 11. Latino, Asian, Pacific-American, African-American or multi-ethnic to play the child of a Caucasian father and a Maori mother. Must sing, act and have a comfortable stage presence. Smart child who adores her father. Must be able to learn French phrases. SUPPORTING
