Character Descriptions and Notes:

SEEKING ACTORS OVER 18. These roles will not be understudied.

Alejandro:

(Latino male. 18+ to play early/mid 20s, strong dancer) - the middle child of the family; a soulful and deeply compassionate young man who carries the weight of his family's troubles on his back and who has given up his dreams to hold his family together; he has spent his entire life taking care of others and it has come at a great price to his own happiness; but he is not morose and is capable of great tenderness and humor; he is at once the toughest and most fragile person you've ever met

Francisco:

(Latino male. 18+ to play mid/late 20s, should move confidently, but no strong dance is required) – the oldest child, a lovable goof; he thinks he’s a stud but is mostly a clown; and although he allows himself to be caught in his mother’s web of unrealistic dreams, he is capable (at times) of startlingly clear, practical, and insightful wisdom; only reliable in an extreme emergency; the rest of the time, he’s too drunk to care

Rebecca:

(Latino female. 18+ to play late teens/early 20s, good dancer) – the baby of the family; a great romantic; the repository of all the family’s dreams; she starts the play without an ounce of cynicism, she slowly grows into a young woman before our eyes; wide-eyed yet not naive; she has simply not been disappointed by life enough to put her guard up; but she will learn

Jamie:

(Caucasian male. 18+ to play early/mid 20s, strong dancer, must tap) – tough little Irish kid who used to get beat up by his dad every day and now dances on Broadway; classic American success story; loves his life and what he’s become but never forgets where he’s come from; a little cocky but not in an obnoxious way—he’s just so damned happy that this is his life; a big-hearted guy, he is capable of honest and heartfelt compassion but is not afraid to dole out some tough love when it’s needed
