A tale of adventure that left England spellbound in the 19th century is at the center of Donald Margulies' play Shipwrecked! Louis de Rougemont, a would-be explorer, invites you to hear his amazing story of bravery, survival and celebrity. Join as the adventurous de Rougemont shares his fantastical story of bravery, survival and celebrity – blurring the lines between fact and fiction.
Seeking:
Louis de Rougemont:
(Early 40s to Early 50s) A romantic dreamer, a teller of tall tales, with a boyish sense of adventure and an old man's soul. He has the mischievousness of Falstaff, the wounded grandeur of Prospero and ultimately the tragic delusion of Lear. Seeking an actor who is charismatic, agile, quick-thinking and skilled with rich and complicated text. Must be facile, move well and be comfortable with the physical demands of this role. Actor must be able to convince the audience that he is an old man one minute and a boy the next. Louis’s age spans 16-60 in the play. Must be strong with accents, especially an English accent. This is a Tour de force role. ($700 per week)
Player #1:
(20s to early 30s) Female. An inventive, collaborative, great physical actress who is versatile, creative, smart and quick on her feet while keeping choices true to each character without resorting to caricatures. She plays multiple roles of both sexes, including doting middle-aged mother, young Aborigine princess, a salty sea captain, society lady, ruthless magazine editor and naturalist expert. Must move well. Mime experience a plus. Must be strong with both French and British accents. ($600 per week)
Player #2:
(30s to 40s) Male. versatile character actor to play multiple roles including a dog, an Aborigine, a rough and ready Australian prospector, society lady, a little boy, Queen Victoria, a Viennese psychiatrist, a science expert and a London reporter. Agile, facile, funny, inventive, able to create different characterizations from one moment to the next. Very important that this person is comically gifted Must move well - mime experience a plus. Must be strong with British, Australian, and Viennese accents. ($600 Per Week)
NOTE: For the audition, those actors coming in for Player #2 must prepare a 1 minute dog pantomime showing the following characteristics: curiosity, affection, playfulness, aggression, heroism - not necessarily in that order
