BREAKDOWN
Play Description: A picnic interrupted by soldiers. Never-ending lines. Sunbathing in the shadow of a tank. Scenes From 71* Years gathers a multicultural cast to weave together a rich narrative of life in Palestine. Palestinian-Irish playwright Hannah Khalil draws from stories of family and friends to reveal the real human story: the dreams, comedy, sadness, and frustrations of daily life in the shadow of the ‘separation wall.’
This is an ensemble piece built for 12 actors. The roles are all Palestinian or Israeli. Some parts may require fluency in Arabic and/or Hebrew.
1 Young Boy/Girl (12-13) (Bandage Scene, University Scenes)
1 Father Figure (50s-60s) (Bandage Scene, University Scenes, Displaced Man)
3 Young Women (20s) (Picnic Scenes, Nadia, Rula)
1 Old Man (Jiddo, Abu Zaman)
2 Young Male Soldiers (Picnic Scene, Bandaging Scene, Son 1, Checkpoint Soldiers)
