World premiere. Meena Pierotti’s job is making her unhappy. Luckily, there’s a pill for that. Well, not yet. But Meena has joined the clinical trial for a new drug targeting workplace depression. The trial gets messy, however, when she falls in love with her doctor, who himself is trying to enroll in a drug trial targeting heartbreak. This quirky comedy about romance in the age of prescription drugs asks what we really need to heal.

Seeking (all roles are available):

Phil:

30s-40s. Earnest, straitlaced pharmaceutical researcher who discovers his poetic side when he falls in love for the first time. Charming and smart. A little bit of a nerd. Wants to do the right thing. Must be likable. Comic straight man—sweet and funny.

Meena:

30s-40s. Prose poet whose desk job as an editor at a trade magazine makes her cry, because she hates her job. A comic actress who’s charming and smart and can play a little nerdy. Casting personnel state that they are especially seeking “‘names’ as well as established stage actresses”.

Frances:

70s-80s. Widow who has lived on her own for years. Kind, funny, lonely, thrifty. Plump is helpful, but not essential. Has a Midwestern feel, but is not genteel.

Ed:

50s-70s. Pharma company researcher. Disorganized “mad scientist” type.

Simon:

30s-40s. Meena’s boss. Editorial director at a trade magazine. A company man and a ladies’ man. Big fish in a small pond. Handsome, a little slick. Not as successful as he thinks he is (very much the opposite of Phil).

Allison:

40s-50s. Phil’s boss. Pharma company executive. Tall, tough, charismatic, energetic. Loves her job, and nothing but her job.
