Seeking
A dynamic, multi-ethnic company of 8 classically trained actors for Romeo & Juliet set in 1990’s Los Angeles. With the Belmont tunnel as inspiration for the town square, this multi-ethnic cast will play largely to high school audiences.

Preparation
Please prepare two brief Shakespearean verse monologues. Not to exceed 2 1/2 minutes total. Please bring picture & resume stapled together.

Breakdown

Romeo: Able to play teens. Discovering true passion for the first time. Loyal and sincere, he will defy friends, family, and ultimately death for love.

Juliet: Latina, able to play young teens. Young woman with drive, quick wit and exceptional passion. Riding the rollercoaster of discovering new emotions, shifting relationships and emerging sexuality.

Lord Capulet: Latino, 40s-50s. Charming dealmaker who can change mood in a flash. As unquestioned head of his household, will not tolerate disobedience.

Benvolia/Lady Capulet: Teens/Late 20s. Benvolia is the tomboy who can hang with the fellas. Lady Capulet is stylish and sophisticated

Nurse/Lady Montague: 30s-40s. Nurse can be brash and bawdy but also capable of deep emotion, Lady Montague is concerned about Romeo but is also able to stand toe to toe with Lord Capulet.

Tybalt: 20s. Hot-tempered fighter and great dancer with a keen sense of honor. Everything he does, he does with flair.

Mercutio/Paris: Late teens/ early 20s. Mercutio is self-appointed guardian of the Montague boys. He defies convention at every opportunity and has a talent for taking things too far. Paris is every parent’s dream son-in-law.

Friar: 40s-60s Wise and trusted counselor, he spends his time observing the natural world- plants and people. Gets flustered when rushed.
