1st rehearsals: 8/23/11. Runs: 9/13/11 - 10/2/11 at the Arvada.

Production then moves to Lone Tree arts Center 30 min south of Denver 10/7/11 - 10/16/11

NYC auditions by APPOINTMENT ONLY will be held on an upcoming date TBD in the end of June.

PRINCIPALS

Coalhouse Walker Jr.:

(Baritone) – Male, late 20s-30s, African American. Star pianist and the father of Sarah’s child: proud, confident, stubborn; becomes militant and violent for his cause.

Mother:

(Alto) – Female, 30s, Caucasian. Upper middle-class New Rochelle housewife; gentle, compassionate, optimistic. Struggles with the changes of society.

Father:

(Baritone) – Male, Late 30-40s, Caucasian. Upper middle-class business man. He is traditional in the male role of the period, cautious and resistant to change.

Grandfather:

(Baritone) – Male, Late 50-60s, Caucasian. Little Boy’s grandfather. Very outspoken

Sarah:

(Soprano/Alto) – Female, 20s –Early 30s, African American. The mother of Coalhouse’s child; despondent, discouraged, sensitive, vulnerable, but ultimately incredibly strong.

Tateh:

(Tenor) – Male, Late 30-40s, Caucasian/Eastern European/Jewish immigrant in search of the American Dream; intelligent, compassionate, creative.

CHORUS PARTS

Booker T. Washington:

(Baritone) – Male, Mid 40s, African American. Civil Rights pioneer.

Emma Goldman:

(Alto) – Female, early 30s to 40s, Eastern European/Jewish. Feminist anarchist. Strong willed and intense.

Evelyn Nesbit:

(Soprano, intense dance) – Female, Early 20s, Caucasian. Sexy starlet love by all men, but smart enough to use it.

Harry Houdini:

(Tenor) – Male, mid 20s-30s. Hungarian Immigrant. World famous magician.

Sarah’s Friend:

Female Early 20s-30s, African American, Gospel Soprano
