10 AM – Equity female dancers 520 8th Avenue, 16th Floor
2 PM – Equity male dancers New York, NY
Be prepared to dance. Females should bring heels. Males should bring flats and heels (for drag portion). Wear form-fitting dance attire. After dancing, you may be asked to sing 16 bars of a pop or disco song. Bring sheet music for your song; a piano accompanist will be provided. Bring a photo/resume stapled together. Males should not dress in drag for this call.
NOTE: Based on the Oscar-winning movie THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT, the musical tells the funny and moving story of three drag performers who set off from Sydney across the Australian desert in a battered, old tour bus, christened Priscilla. The show contains classic pop and disco hits such as “I Will Survive” and “I Love the Nightlife”.
SEEKING:
Female Swing:
Caucasian or Asian or Latina female, late 20s – 30s. Fantastic singer in the disco-belt style with flexible range. Should have strong dance ability and a good physique. To understudy the following featured ensemble roles: The Divas (Three women who carry the musical weight of the show. Sassy, strong, and sexy, they lead us through some of the greatest hits of the last decades); Marion (A hotel entertainment manager in Darwin, mother of 8-year-old Benjamin, and estranged wife of Tick, a discontented drag queen who is the best in the business. A strong, direct, and forthright woman who takes charge, but is incredibly accepting of her role as a single mother. There is a deep unconventional affection between her and Tick); Shirley(Hardened outback bartender/waitress); and Cynthia (Bob’s feisty Filipino wife. A frustrated performer of obscure “stage tricks” which make her very popular at the local pub. She spends her days as a housewife looking after Bob and his home).
Male Swing:
African-American male, late 20s – 30s. Strong dancer/pop singer/actor to understudy male ensemble members, including the featured ensemble role of Jimmy (Friendly indigenous Australian bloke that the queens run into in the desert. He has innocent charm). Should have a good physique.
