Developmental “workshop” rehearsals begin 4/13/11. Presentation: 4/21. Full LORT production planned for Summer/Fall, 2011 at the American Repertory Theater in Boston. Broadway production planned for Fall/Winter, 2011/12.

Monday, December 20, 2010 Pearl Studios NYC

10 AM – Equity male dancers who sing 500 Eighth Avenue, 12th Floor

2 PM – Equity female dancers who sing New York City

Please be warmed up and ready to dance when the call begins. Bring jazz shoes or sneakers. Bring kneepads. Some may be asked to stay and sing after all have danced. Please prepare 16 bars of a standard musical theater song. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

10 AM – Equity female singers who act and move 315 West 43rd Street, 10th Floor

2 PM – Equity male singers who act and move New York City

Please prepare 16 bars of a legit musical theater song that shows your range. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided.

Re-imagining of Gershwin’s great American “folk opera” as a Broadway-style book musical for contemporary audiences and contemporary singers. While the approach will be fresh and immediate, the production will remain faithful to the spirit of the original, and will again be set in the 1940s on “Catfish Row”, an African American tenement on the waterfront of Charleston, SC.

Characters are African American and Caucasian, 20s-40s. Seeking dancer/singers and singer/actor/movers to play a variety of characters.
