TALLEY’S FOLLY By Lanford Wilson
Dir. J. Barry Lewis
1st rehearsal: September 18, 2012. Runs: October 12, 2011 – November 11, 2012

Matt Friedman – 42, dark, and rather large (tall but not heavy-set.) Warm and unhurried, he has a talent for mimicry. In his voice is a trace of a German-Jewish accent.

Sally Talley - 31, light, thin, quite attractive, but in no way glamorous or glamorized. Straightforward, rather tired and has the capacity for anger. Has a pronounced Ozark accent, but when she concentrates on what she is saying, the accent becomes less pronounced.

A DELICATE BALANCE By Edward Albee
Dir. William Hayes
1st rehearsal: November 13, 2012. Runs: December 7, 2012 – January 6, 2013

Claire - 50’s-60’s. Agnes younger sister. She is an alcoholic. She is acerbic, witty, unpredictable and full of disdain for Agnes. She speaks her mind and is not interested in being polite. She lives with Agnes and Tobias and relies on them to support her. She is seen as a failure and an embarrassment.

Julia – mid 30’s, daughter of Agnes & Tobias. Her fourth marriage has just failed so she has returned home. Her father calls her a whiner. She is self-centered, sullen, demanding, unsympathetic, insensitive, emotionally unstable, and prone to tantrums.

Edna - 50’s-60’s, Agnes and Tobias’s friend and married to Harry. Emotionally wounded. Critical yet reflective and not afraid to voice her opinions. She and Harry arrive at Agnes and Tobias’s home and ask to stay until they get over their unnamed fear.

Harry - 50’s-60’s Edna’s husband and Tobias’s best friend, retired businessman. Somewhat of a reflection of Tobias, but is even more reserved. He is a man of few words. He prefers to talk around things rather than going at them straight on. He avoids questions and has the tendency to repeat himself.

Agnes - CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. “A handsome woman in her late 50-60’s” She is well off and married to Tobias. She is also Julia’s mother and Claire’s sister. She sees herself as the one who holds everything together but in actuality she feels she could easily lose her mind. She is self-absorbed, self-righteous and self-pitying, judgmental, proud, and frequently superior.

Tobias - CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. 60’s-early 70’s, Agnes’ husband. A well-to-do, retired businessman. He is tolerant, patient, reserved and nonjudgmental and tends to avoid emotional topics. He works at keeping a balance in this dysfunctional family.

A RAISIN IN THE SUN By Lorraine Hansberry
Dir. TBD
1st rehearsal: January 8, 2013. Runs: February 1, 2013 – March 3, 2013

Ruth Younger – 30’s, African American, Walter’s wife and Travis’s mother. She is young but her weariness makes her seem older. “Once was a pretty girl but now disappointment hangs in her face.” She does not lack spirit or strength and has a hidden fire that will erupt as needs be. “She is a woman torn between the needs and dreams of others.” Her almost pessimistic pragmatism helps her to survive.

Walter Lee Younger – mid-30’s, African American, “he is a lean, intense young man, a dreamer, inclined to quick movements and erratic speech habits.” As Mama’s only son, Ruth’s defiant husband, Travis’s caring father, and Beneatha’s belligerent brother, he serves as both protagonist and antagonist of the play

Beneatha Younger (Bennie) – 20’s, African American, Mama’s daughter and Walter’s sister. Beneatha is an intellectual and prides herself on being independent. “She is slim and intense like her brother.” She attends college and is better educated than the rest of the Younger family. She dreams of being a doctor and struggles to determine her identity as a well-educated black woman.

Lena Younger (Mama) - 50's - 60’s, African American, Walter and Beneatha’s mother. The matriarch of the family, Mama is religious, moral, and maternal. “She is full bodied and strong.” She carries herself with a certain grace and beauty yet her speech is careless and “she is inclined to slur everything.”

Joseph Asagai - A Nigerian student in his 20’s, in love with Beneatha. Proud of his African heritage, he hopes to return to Nigeria to help bring about positive change and modern advancements. He stands in obvious contrast to Beneatha’s other suitor, George Murchison.

George Murchison- 20’s-30’s, African American, Beneatha’s other suitor. He is a wealthy, arrogant African-American who has succeeded in life by assimilating to the white world. Pompous and self-centered.

EXIT THE KING By Eugene Ionesco
Dir. William Hayes
1st rehearsal: March 5, 2013. Runs: March 29, 2013 – April 28, 2013

Please note: this play requires actors who have strength in comedic acting and pantomime.

King Berenger- 50’s-60’s, belligerent, egotistical, self-absorbed and petulant. He has lost the power to control his surroundings and is slowly losing his physical capabilities as well. Through much of the play, he is in denial of his death and refuses to give up power. Once an all-powerful monarch, he gets weaker as the play progresses.

Queen Marguerite - 50’s-60’s, King Berenger’s first, older wife. She was once beautiful but her beauty has faded. She is cool, direct, practical, authoritative, in control and has little patience for Queen Marie or the foolishness of others. She is the first person to let the King know, quite frankly, that he is going to die today. She points out all the things that are going wrong. As he loses his power to command, only she can order the others in the court to act.

Queen Marie - 20’s-30’s, King Berenger’s younger and more beautiful wife. She is optimistic but not realistic; she is sympathetic and coddles the King. She refuses to believe that he is about to die. She is sensitive, emotional, weak tempered and is prone to tears.

Doctor - 50’s–60’s, King Berenger’s surgeon, astrologer, science advisor and executioner. He is pragmatic, logical, calm and sensible and tries to reason with the King. He announces with all certainty all sorts of natural disasters that prove the universe is falling apart.

Juliette - 40’s–50’s, the King’s nurse and palace maid, she does her best to keep the King comfortable. She speaks bluntly and describes her life as wretched and filled with misery. She is slightly addled, weary, ragged and overworked but vows her loyalty to the king.

Guard - 30’s–40’s, the King’s servant in the court, he grandly repeats pronouncements throughout the play. He is solid, dependable, steadfast and loyal.

DANCING AT LUGHNASA By Brian Friel
Dir. J. Barry Lewis
1st rehearsal: April 30, 2013. Runs: May 24, 2013 – June 23, 2013

Please note: All characters speak with Irish dialect from Ballybeg, County Donegal.

Michael Mundy - A young man, late 20’s to early 30’s. Agreeable. Plays both his adult self as well as the seven year old of the play. Narrator and entrance to the past lives and stories.

Kate Mundy – 40 years old, schoolteacher. Eldest of the Mundy sister, acts as the mother figure to the family. Fiercely devout Catholic. Upright and often strident in her view of the world.

Maggie Mundy – 38 years old, housekeeper. Chief family homemaker. Is the ’joker’ of the family, defusing tension as they ride. Fun-loving.

Agnes Mundy – 35 years old, knitter. Special protector and caretaker of her sister Rose. Quiet and contemplative.

Rose Mundy – 32 years old, knitter. “Simple” in nature, behaves much younger than her years due to a development disability. Susceptible to the outer world influences.

Chris Mundy – 26 years old, Michael’s mother. The youngest of the Mundy sisters. Fluctuates from moods of depression to optimism. Fiercely protective of her son.

Gerry Evans – 33 years old, Michael’s father. Moves with a jaunty step, with a cane for effect. Good looking with athletic build. Charming and affectionate free spirit.

Father Jack - 53 years old, missionary priest, looks frail and older than his years. Moves with a shuffle gate, appears uneasy and confuse. Speaks with scarcely any trace of an Irish accent. Has difficulty with his memory. Suffers from malaria and confusion.
