FROZEN

By: Music and Lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, Book by Jennifer Lee Performance Space: Roberts Mainstage

Director: Alan Muraoka

Choreographer: Kelly d’Amboise

Music Director: Christopher Youstra

DATES:

Rehearsals Begin: September 17, 2024

Previews Begin: October 24, 2024

Opening: October 27, 2024

Closing: January 5, 2025

SYNOPSIS:

Based on the hit 2013 Disney film of the same name, Frozen follows sisters Anna and Elsa of Arendelle. When Elsa’s ice powers are exposed to the kingdom on the day of her coronation, Anna, an ice harvester named Kristoff, his reindeer Sven, and a snowman named Olaf set off on an adventure to bring Elsa back to Arendelle.

ANNA - Anna is the Princess of Arendelle and Elsa’s younger sister. She is a hopelessly optimistic extrovert at all ages, but as she grows older, she longs for connection with others, especially her sister, Elsa. Strong singer with excellent comedic timing.

ELSA - Next in line for the throne, Elsa has been born with magical powers that can overwhelm her when she becomes afraid and harm others if not handled with care. Fearful of hurting anyone, especially her beloved sister, Anna, Elsa becomes anxious and withdrawn as she grows older, but she is slowly learning to control her powers. Singer with a strong belt.

KRISTOFF - A hardworking ice harvester taken in by the Hidden Folk when he was young. Kristoff has a sarcastic veneer and a rough-around-the-edges exterior that hides a big heart.

HANS - The ambitious Prince of the Southern Isles and overlooked thirteenth son of a king. Hans constantly strives to find a way to make good and stand out. He boasts an exceedingly charming facade that fools everyone in Arendelle.

OLAF - The magical snowman created by Anna and Elsa when they were young. Goofy and sweet, possesses a childlike innocence and excellent comic timing.

SVEN - Kristoff’s best friend, a reindeer. Non-speaking role.

WESELTON - A dignitary from a neighboring kingdom. Weselton is eager to get access to Arendelle’s resources and the newly crowned Queen Elsa, but he is also quick to turn on her once her powers are exposed.

OAKEN - An exceedingly cheerful and fun-loving wandering salesperson and ardent devotee to all things cozy and comfortable.

PABBIE - The Shaman of the Hidden Folk, and one of its leaders. He has a deep knowledge of magic, and he is happy to help those in need.

BULDA - One of the leaders of the Hidden Folk. She serves as a parental figure for Kristoff, and while she and the Hidden Folk can be a bit misguided, they want what is best for Kristoff.

YOUNG ANNA -Age: 8-12. Absolutely adores her older sister Elsa and her powers. Fun-loving and goofy.

YOUNG ELSA - Age: 10-14. Loves and wants to protect her younger sister, but after an accident, she becomes fearful of her powers.

ENSEMBLE, including KING AGNARR, QUEEN IDUNA, TOWNSPEOPLE, HIDDEN FOLK

Music Director: Christopher Youstra

DATES:

Rehearsals Begin: January 14, 2025

Previews Begin: February 12, 2025

Opening: February 15, 2025

Closing: March 30, 2025

Potential Extension: April 6, 2025

SYNOPSIS:

Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker, is stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. Faced with an unexpected pregnancy, Jenna fears she may have to abandon the dream of opening her own pie shop…until a baking contest in a nearby county and the town's handsome new doctor offer her a tempting recipe for happiness. Supported by her quirky crew of fellow waitresses and loyal customers, Jenna summons the secret ingredient she's been missing all along — courage.

JENNA - Female, 20s-30s. A woman stuck in her life as an unhappily married waitress in a small town. Finds some happiness and expression through her meticulous baking of pies and her friendships with her coworkers, Dawn and Becky. Lives her life paycheck-to-paycheck, day by day, and wants nothing more than to get away and start fresh, unbeknownst to her destructive husband, Earl. Must have a fantastic pop/rock voice with great range.

DAWN - Female, 20s. She's the youngest of the waitresses. Thick glasses, hair parted 14 centimeters to the left — eccentric is the nice way to say she’s slightly unusual, and not so slightly OCD. An excellent pop/rock/folk voice.

BECKY - Female, late 30s-early 50s. The oldest of the three waitresses. Irreverent, irascible, been there, made it back, and somehow kept her forward and sometimes wicked sense of humor with excellent comedic timing. A soulful pop voice with an excellent pop belt.

DR. POMATTER - Male, 30s-early 40s. Handsome, endearing, and neurotic. Has a warm, if clumsy, matter. Jenna’s gynecologist with whom an unexpected extramarital affair is born. Impeccable comedic timing and moves well. Has a very strong pop/rock tenor.

EARL - Male, 20s-30s. Jenna’s husband. Peaked in high school, handsome in a gruff way, but that face is clouded with broken dreams, drowned with cheap beer. Just enough narcissism mixed with stupidity to be a potent Molotov cocktail that can explode into unexpected anger one second and then turn into a sobbing mess the next.

OGIE - Male, 30s. Becomes slightly obsessed with Dawn (in a hilarious yet endearing way) after she goes on a 5-minute date with him. Quirky, incredibly persistent, and odd, yet kind. Has excellent comedic timing and an excellent pop/rock tenor voice.

JOE - Male, 60s-70s. The owner of the diner where Jenna, Dawn, Becky, and Cal work. A seemingly old, curmudgeonly man who has a soft spot for Jenna (and her pie), but picks when that warmth allows itself to be shown.

CAL - Male, 40s. A chef at the diner. Brash, impatient, unsentimental, but somehow charming. Has a strong pop/rock voice with great comedic chops.

LULU - Character is 4-5 years old, Jenna’s daughter. Confident and be able to engage in a small amount of dialogue and movement on stage.

ENSEMBLE, including DINER PATRONS, NURSE NORMA, JENNA’S MOM, JENNA’S DAD, ETC.
