A funny and irreverent World Premiere musical romantic comedy from the award-winning creative team of playwright Itamar Moses (Bach at Leipzig) and Gaby Alter (Band Geeks!). Filled with tuneful pop songs, Nobody Loves You is about the search for real love on the set of a reality television show. When Jeff, a philosophy grad student, joins a reality show to try and win back his ex, he breaks all the rules and blows the game wide open. Seduced by fame, will Jeff find the courage to trade the love of his fans for the love of his life?
Note: We are seeking actors to participate in the NYC reading and continue in the Old Globe production.
Audition notes:
All Men, unless noted, should prepare a Pop/Rock song that's melodic and has a literate bent to the lyrics. (Along the lines of Ben Folds, Postal Service, They Might Be Giants, Rufus Wainwright) And bring their books.
All Women, unless noted, should prepare a Pop/Rock song that has a focus on the lyrics. They should also prepare a Pop Song that shows off their range and power (Kelly Clarkson, Pink, etc.) And bring their books.

Jeff:
(20s/30s ) He is a PhD student who joins a reality show to win back his ex. A smart and edgy guy who has no problem showing his dislike for reality shows. Despite his “I’m better than this” semi-bitter attitude, we end up falling in love with him. Paul Rudd 15 years ago. Affectless voice, speech-like singing, emphasis on acting. Tenor.
Jenny:
(20s/30s) She is a reality TV producer who gets sucked into the game. Intelligent, edgy, not easily impressed, but also very likeable. Rock/Pop alto. Please prepare an alternative rock or alternative folk rock song (Along the lines of the band Veruca Salt)
Christian/Steve/As Cast:
(20s/30s) He is a sweet, earnest, but not totally naive youth pastor who joins the reality show in an attempt to make a good Christian example for the youth viewing audience/A fan of the show. High tenor.
Megan/Bonnie/As Cast:
(20s/30s) A worn out alcoholic party girl who joins the reality show in a desperate attempt for some kind of redemption/A fan of the show. Rock/Pop Alto
Samantha/As Cast:
(20s/30s) A good, sweet, gorgeous gal whose stint on the reality show reveals her emotionally manipulative side. Soprano rock/belt.
Brantley/Chazz/Dominic/As Cast:
(20s/30s) – He is Jenny’s gay roommate/Jeff’s roommate and best friend/A reality contestant full of wisdom. Character actor. Needs to be able to play three major roles convincingly and be very funny in all of them. Baritone or any voice type – not a heavy singing role.
Tanya/Nina/Zenobia/As Cast:
(30s) Jeff’s sexy ex-girlfriend. Obsessed with reality TV/High-powered producer of the reality show /An oblivious reality contestant. Needs to play two major roles convincingly. Any voice type – not a heavy singing role.
Byron:
(30s) He is a sleazy “showbizy” host of a reality dating show. Really good singer and actor with a strong rock tenor. Please prepare an 80’s rock song that shows off power and range more (along the lines of Foreigner, Corey Hart etc.).
