Synopsis:
Six strangers are trapped in a house for eternity, reliving the last night of their lives over and over as a deadly force from the outside threatens to find its way in. Based on the classic 1968 American horror film, Night of the Living Dead, NightoftheLivingDead the musical re-imagines George Romero's iconic night and examines the relationships between the six doomed individuals, who are themselves, living dead.
Seeking 6 strong actor singers (3 men / 3 women):
Barbra:
20s, Mezzo Belt - (low A flat below middle C to High G) - A waspy 20 something from an affluent family, who we meet for the first time after she has witnessed her brother being savagely attacked in front of her. Her reality and clarity never fully returns, and she spends the night coming in and out of shocked catatonia. She is a shattered doll.
Ben:
20s/30s, Bari-Tenor (High A, falsetto B) - African American male, Very much a take charge guy. Very Alpha Male, very well spoken, and very protective of Barbra and the upstairs. His tough outer shield protects his total horror at what he has witnessed on the way to the house. He deals with the events of the day by constant tasks to fortify the house and by denial. His tenderness to Barbra shows his softer side and his humanity.
Harry:
30s/40s, Tenor (High B flat) - Caucasian Alpha Male, protecting the basement of the house, where his wife and child are. He will do anything to protect them from the threat outside, including let others die who don't want to follow his plans. In a marriage that is basically loveless. He cares the most about his daughter, who has been wounded on the way to the house.
Helen:
30s/40s, Alto (High A flat) - Long suffering wife of Harry. Her main concern is for her daughter's well being. She is more willing to cooperate with Ben and think outside of the cellar, but only as a means to get her daughter to a hospital. She would die for her child.
Tom:
20s, Tenor (High B flat) - Young man who has a very good heart, is very kind, and tries to mediate between Harry and Ben. Truly one of the only people in the house trying to make everyone work together. His main concern is his girlfriend, Judy.
Judy:
20s, Belt (High C) - A meak and tentative young 20 something, who does nothing without the go ahead from Tom. In this crisis situation, she starts to resent the fact that because he always does everything for her, she doesn't know how to do anything to help at all. She is frustrated by this feeling of being useless, and will do anything to stay by Tom's side always. Her one wish is to make him proud of her.
