| Breakdown
Ardavazt Oghidanian: Quiet sturdy Armenian man. Great resources of inner strength. Survives the loss of both of his families, without losing his heart. Unwilling to talk about the past. Must be able to play from 18-40. Aristides: Charismatic. Hot. Gorgeous. Sexy. Dominican singer. Speaks with heavy Domincan accent. Authentic Caribbean rhythms very important. Velvety voiced. Extremely emotional. Volatile temper. Has the talent but not the courage to be a successful opera singer. 30’s. Older Ardavazt: An older wiser Ardavazt. Time and all he has endured has softened, not hardened, him and he now seeks to connect with his daughter Jan. 60’s. Alice’s Mother: A robust firecracker of a woman. Uses humor and melodrama to distract herself from how disappointed by life she is. Loves her daughter Alice fiercely and sees her as her hope for joy fulfilled. A real “old county” Mama. 50’s. Older Alice/ Act II: An older and wiser Alice. Free from the constraints of “reality,” she is no longer trying to be sane. Hoping to “get it right with this time” with her daughter, even if it is in the realm of spirit. Able to portray a goddess like presence- as her appearances are surreal. 50’s- 60’s.
