About: an Afro-Caribbean descended, heavily pregnant cleaning woman, brings her 9-year-old daughter, to the house of her wealthy clients in London, but goes into labor and her daughter is left alone at the house to watch the upper class couple dissolve in a firestorm before her eyes.
NOTE: The actress playing Winnie, if she is a minor, must be a resident of the Philadelphia area - the role can be played by an 18+ actress if she can genuinely evoke the physicality, psychology and demeanor of a 9-12 year old girl.
Seeking:
Winnie Barnstairs:
(9) Afro-Caribbean. Speaks some French. Has a South London British accent. Sharp, quiet, intelligent & observant. She is independent and realistic and a bit weary of her mom’s promises of a brighter future but remains compassionate to her mother’s situation. Nothing escapes her. A mischievous gleam in her eye and quick comic timing. Must be wildly appealing, have an innate sense of calm and watchfulness.
Laverne Barnstairs:
(Late 20s – Mid 30s) Winnie’s Mom. Second generation Afro- Caribbean. Speaks some French. South London accent. Heavily pregnant. Hard-working, determined and enormously proud of her daughter Winnie. A single parent, trying to make ends meet, she must keep the work she has cleaning houses, no matter how lunatic her employers. She is strict with her daughter as she tries to ensure Winnie will escape a life of manual labor. Pragmatic but also indulges in fantasies she shares with her daughter of an easier life. Warm, attractive, appealing.
The Man (Kevin Tate):
(40s) RP British accent A charismatic TV host, commercial presenter and producer, who has become wealthy, well known and accustomed to getting his way. Self made, ambitious and entrepreneurial. He dislikes children but is paternalistic to his young secretary, with whom he is having an affair. He is clever, elitist, egotistical and slightly coarse. He is unsatisfied with his marriage, exhilarated at the idea of getting out of it but terrified by that reality. Must have a terrific sense of timing.
The Wife (Paula Tate):
(late 30s - 45) Speaks French. RP British accent.
A caring but impulsive, professional woman who is at the end of her patience with her marriage. Elegant and proud, an overachiever, significantly more successful and much smarter than her husband. Exacting, stylish and ultimately, lonely. Beneath her hardened, commanding exterior is someone who can be sensitive and empathetic. Must have a terrific sense of timing.
The Secretary (Tiffany):
(20s) British accent. Curvy, attractive and childlike. Highly sexual but not at all calculating. She is a kind, understanding young woman who has made the mistake of falling in love with a married man. Continually puts her foot in her mouth. Impeccable comic timing is necessary.
