Lunch from 1 - 2. New York City

Please prepare a brief (approx. two-minute) Shakespeare monologue (or, if auditioning for the roles of Hero, Claudio or Balthazar, prepare a one-minute Shakespeare monologue and 16 bars of a pop/rock/contemporary song, to be sung a cappella).

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Play with music.

Seeking:

Notes: 1) Actors of all ethnicities sought.

    • 2) All roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted) unless otherwise specified. 3) Seeking actors who are Shakespeare-trained and able to work with the language and material with a contemporary sensibility.


Hero:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Woman, late 20s – early 30s. Very strong. Not much experience with men. Can hold her own in any situation. Singer. Strong physical performer.

Claudio:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Late 20s or 30s, African American (or any ethnicity). Has a kindness and quiet to him. Singer. Strong physical performer.

Balthazar:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Age unimportant. Has the soul of an artist. Singer, two songs. Seeking actor with a comedic background and a very good deadpan.

Don Pedro:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Man, 30s. The favorite son. Portrait of a soldier and friend.

Don John:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Man, 30s. The bad guy. This character is a draft of Iago. He is bad because he is. Casting personnel state, “We need simplicity in the performance”. This is the brother who is always getting overlooked, seeking his revenge. The second son. Strong physical performer.

Leonato:

AVAILABLE ROLE. 50s. Father and uncle. Kind; has a fun house to live in; generous. Hero being left at the altar devastates him. Strong physical performer.

The following roles are cast (i.e. offers accepted). Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.

Borachio:

CAST. Man, 30s. Unpredictable and explosive energy. A trickster.

Benedick:

CAST. Man, mid 30s. Sexy, witty, laid-back. A man who will never marry.

Beatrice:

CAST. Woman, 30s. Beautiful, compassionate, fiercely intelligent and very difficult.

Dogberry:

CAST. Man, 40s. Low-status, generous character who never gets anything right. Accomplished comedic performer needed.
