MAN OF LA MANCHA (name of role) / AEA

Submissions are by Mail only. ABSOLUTELY NO PHONE CALLS, VISITS OR EMAILS.

Be sure to include the role for which you're submitting yourself on the envelope

Casting Director’s Note: These are the only roles we're casting in New York. Ensemble roles will be cast through the Equity Chorus Call on Wednesday, January 18th. We are actively seeking actors from all ethnic groups for any and all of these roles. Actors of Spanish, Latino and African American descent are especially encouraged to submit. Actors with strong backgrounds in the classics (Shakespeare) as well as musical theatre might be particularly appropriate for this piece.

Cervantes / Quixote:

40s + Baritone. Poet/playwright/man of the theatre who creates the play with his fellow prisoners. Requires an actor/singer of great skill and charisma, honesty and real heart.

Sancho:

30s+ Character tenor. The archetypal, servant “side-kick” to both Cervantes and Quixote. Comic and quick witted. Great warmth. Traditionally small and somewhat round – probably needs to be smaller in stature than the Cervantes/Quixote but girth is not necessary.

Aldonza:

Late 20s, 30s. Both a lyric voice and a strong belt. Earthy, coarse and sensual, broken by life but ultimately restored by the power of art and idealism.

Governor/Innkeeper:

40s Baritone. Forceful and authoritative but with a great sense of humor and a good heart.

The Duke/ Dr. Carrasco:

30s+ Baritone. (Not a major singing role) Arrogant, aloof and cold. Smart, cunning and cruel.

Padre:

40s + High lyric tenor. Warm hearted and empathetic. Genuinely a man of spirit.

Muleteers (Three Men):

Any vocal type. Need to be able to carry a tune, but polished voices are not a requirement. Rough, violent men. Fight and good basic dance skills a plus
