1) a brief monologue; OR 2) a brief song; OR 3) a one minute monologue and 16 bars of a song. If singing, bring sheet music in correct key; accompanist provided but may not transpose. Songs from the season are welcome. Material should not total more than 2 minutes.

Seeking:

Richard Hannay:

30-50, leading man with a strong sense of the comic, standard (RP) British dialect.

Woman:

(Pamela/Annabella/Margaret): Ingenue, mid-20s to mid-30s, comedienne, good at playing multiple characters, good at dialects (RP, German, Scottish), and excellent at physical comedy.

Clowns 1 & 2:

Mid 20s to 50. Great at physical comedy, able to play multiple characters, male and female, both physically and vocally. In peak shape physically (it’s a very strenuous show!)

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT

Seeking:

Joseph:

(early 20s) – the “dreamer” at the center of our story… Joseph’s brothers are jealous of all the things that draw us to him…his charm, his smile, his honesty, his loving nature, his innocence, his killer good looks and great body (Joseph spends about half the show shirtless), and his powerful pop voice that soars with emotion and power. Seeking a charismatic young singer/actor who can take us on Joseph’s journey –from innocent and naive dreams , to deepest despair, to loving forgiveness, and ultimately to glorious triumph.

Narrator:

(20s-30s) – our storyteller…a warm, wise, loving guide to Joseph’s story. Seeking a versatile female singer/actor with a huge and thrilling belt voice who can guide us on our journey with tons of heart.

Jacob/Potiphar:

(40s-50s) – comic character actor/singer doubling in two diametrically opposite roles: 1) Jacob-the loving, but shortsighted, father of Joseph who causes the brothers’ jealousy with his unwitting favoritism and 2) Potiphar – the decidedly “upper crust” Egyptian millionaire with a philandering wife who has eyes for Joseph-Potiphar is an effete comical presence …until he is cuckolded and flies into a rage that lands Joseph in prison

Joseph’s Brothers:

(early 20s to early 30s) - all 11 brothers must be terrific triple threats – great pop singers with excellent harmony skills, accomplished and athletic dancers (acrobatics and tumbling a big plus), and detailed and convincing actors able to create highly individual personas for each of these 11 brothers. In addition, three of the brothers will double in other roles (BUTLER, BAKER, PHARAOH) as noted below:

Reuben:

The eldest son and de facto leader of the gang Sings: “Those Canaan Days” in a broad French accent … needs great comic chops

Simeon:

Son #2 doubles as Butler – an imprisoned and very proper English butler seeking Joseph’s dream advice…good British accent

Levi:

Son #3 Sings: “One More Angel in Heaven” as a country-western sob song…needs a funny and genuine “twang”

Napthali:

Son #4. doubles as Baker – an imprisoned working class baker seeking Joseph’s dream advice…any “lower class” accent

Isaachar:

Son #5, doubles as Pharaoh – full on, no holds barred Elvis. Depending on actor, can be the uber-sexy young Elvis, or the paunchy jump-suited Elvis of the Vegas years…either way a funny and convincing portrait of “the King” of rock n roll …in Egypt.

Asher: Son #6

Dan: Son #7

Zebulon: Son #8

Gad: Son #9

Judah:

Son #10 the “tropical” son…Sings: “Benjamin Calypso” with a tropical island vibe…very Harry Belafonte

Benjamin:

The youngest and most innocent of the brothers…when he is accused as a thief it is truly shocking

The Wives, The Ishamaelites, The Adoring Girls, Etc:

(early to late 20’s) – these 4 women form our entire ensemble and so must each be an amazing pop singer (will need to cover all female vocal lines with just these 4 girls so each woman will be alone on a part the entire show), each must be a highly skilled dancer in a variety of styles, and all women need to look terrific in very revealing “Egyptian” showgirl costumes (think bare midriffs, bra tops and lots of leg) In addition, one wife will double (Mrs. Potiphar) as noted below:

Wife #1: Excellent singer (1st Alto)/ Excellent Dancer doubles as “MRS. POTIPHAR” – the super sexy (a little sleazy even) cheating wife of Potiphar. Can’t keep her hands off Joseph’s fab pecs and abs. Mrs. Potiphar is smoking hot and she knows it…a dangerous and leggy seductress who won’t take no for an answer

Wife #2:

Excellent singer (1st Soprano-sings obligato aria in “One More Angel in Heaven”)/ Excellent Dancer

Wife #3:

Excellent singer (2nd Soprano)/ Excellent Dancer

Wife #4:

Excellent singer (2nd Alto)/ Excellent Dancer

CABARET

A desperate British headliner at The Kit Kat Klub. 30s.

Cliff Bradshaw:

A conflicted American writer who falls tragically in love with Sally. 30s.

Fräulein Schneider:

An older woman who runs the boarding house where Sally and Cliff live. Late 50s+.

Herr Schultz:

An elderly Jewish fruit shop owner who falls in love with Fräulein Schneider. Late 50s+.

Ernst Ludwig:

A friend/English student of Cliff’s. Good voice a plus. Age range: Late 20s-early 30s.

Fräulein Kost:

A prostitute who rents in Fräulein Schneider’s boarding house. Knowledge of the accordion or piano is a plus. Late 30s-mid 40s.

Matchmaker, widow, meddler, opportunist, life-loving, commanding, strong stage presence. Age: 40-50. Vocal range: alto-soprano. Strong mover.

Horace Vandergelder:

Well-known half-a-millionaire, widower, owns the Feed Store, gruff, set in his ways, authoritative. Age: 40-60. Vocal range: baritone. Strong mover.

Cornelius Hackl:

Head clerk at the Feed Store, energetic, enthusiastic, and adventurous. Age: 30-35. Vocal range: baritone. Good dancer.

Barnaby Tucker:

Assistant to Cornelius at the Feed Store, naïve, energized, follower. Age: 20-25. Vocal range: baritone. Strong dancer, tumbling a plus.

Irene Molloy:

Owns the Hat Shop, widow, beautiful, smart, fun-loving. Age: 30-35. Vocal range: soprano. Good dancer.

Minnie Fay:

Irene’s assistant, naïve, straight-laced, fresh, follower. Age: 20-25. Vocal range: mezzo-soprano. Great dancer.

Ambrose Kemper:

Struggling artist, good-natured, accommodating, wants to marry Ermengarde. Age: 18-23. Vocal range: tenor. Great dancer.

Ermengarde:

Horace’s niece, whining, high-strung, wants to marry Ambrose. Age: 18-20. Vocal range: any. Great dancer.
