NOTE: These characters closely resemble their counterparts in the first MADAGASCAR film. The costumes/makeup will be along the lines of THE LION KING. In other words, no foam heads – the actors faces will be showing. All of the actors will be portraying characters in their 20s or 30s. Puppetry skills are helpful.
Seeking:
Alex the Lion:
(Ben Stiller in the movie) - Leading man type. Must be a terrific singer and dancer. Vain; he knows he’s a star and enjoys it, but he’s not a bad guy at heart.
Marty the Zebra:
(Chris Rock) (prefer to cast as African-American). Must be a terrific singer and dancer. Urban, facile with language, excitable. Has a slangy, hip-hop sensibility.
Gloria the Hippo:
(Jada Pinkett Smith) – any ethnicity. Smart, maternal character actress who is also a terrific singer and dancer. Large woman is preferable.
Melman the Giraffe:
(David Schwimmer) – Tall, slim, nerdy hypochondriac. Must be a terrific singer. This character is on stilts the entire show, so stilt walking experience is a plus.
King Julien and others:
(Sasha Baron Cohen) – physically and verbally quick-witted. Very impressed with himself; narcissistic, but in a funny and loveable way. A great improvisational comedian who is also a terrific singer and dancer.
Maurice and others:
King Julien’s right hand man. African-American preferred. Smart – he knows he really runs the island, but has to play second fiddle to the King. Must be a terrific singer and dancer.
