Preparation
Actual sheet music for the scenes will be available at least one week in advance for reference. Please select music appropriate to that provided for your audition. Bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided. Bring headshot and resume.

Breakdown

Please note: These are four original music-theatre scenes created by Chicago Public School high school students as part of a"Living Bookshelf" project which uses a novel as inspiration for students to reimagine the themes and characters from their own perspective in collaboration with a professional lyricist (Bruce Tayor) and composer (Mary Ann Ivan).

Ras: Mature African American Male 30-40, Baritone. Inspired by the character of"Ras the Destroyer" in Ralph Ellison's Novel"Invisible Man." Charismatic activist in Chicago during the mid-60s and in Harlem during the Harlem Renaissance

Mary: Mature African-American Female, Mezzo Soprano. Inspired by the character of Mary in Ralph Ellison's Novel"Invisible Man." Neighborhood matriarch, deeply spiritual.
