SEEKING:
Audrey:
Female. Age range: 25-35. Sexy, sweet, timid, vulnerable, hopeful. She works at Mushnik’s Skid Row florist. When she sings we see the depth of what’s really underneath the surface. Where she lacks in brains and confidence she makes up in charisma. She sees the world as her private ‘B’ movie. PLEASE NOTE: We are looking to discover our own Audrey and do not recommend an Ellen Greene impersonation. Low A to High D.
Seymour:
Male. Age range: 25-35. The florist clerk and our hero. An underdog, but not a loser. Oddly, yet endearingly, attractive. He has been bullied his entire life. Bright-eyed,insecure, naïve - sometimes to a fault. Low A to High G
Mr. Mushnik:
Male. Age range: 45-60. A failed East Side florist. The boss and flower shop owner. Eastern European, overweight, scheming, selfish. Miserable at first, then obsequious. Low G to High E flat
Orin:
Male. Age range: 30-40. Orin Scrivello, D.D.S. A handsome dentist with sadistic tendencies. A pretty-boy with an evil grin. Egotistical and chauvinistic. Seeking a dynamic and versatile actor who also doubles the following other roles: Wino #2 (a bum), Customer, Radio Announcer, Mr. Bernstein, Mrs. Luce, Skip Snip, and Patrick Martin.
Crystal, Ronnette, and Chiffon:
3 Females. Age range: 20-30. Seeking three actors of various ethnicities to play three female street urchins who inhabit multiple characters throughout the play. They’re young, hip, smart and the only people in the whole cast who REALLY know what’s going on. They often sing directly to the audience, and when they do, it’s with a “secret- smile” that says: “we know something you don’t know”. They are spectacular singers and dancers, and will be on stage for most of the show.
Male OR Female. The creature is played by a series of four puppets that increase in size. The first, third, and fourth puppets are manipulated by one puppeteer. It is the puppeteer’s job to make the audience believe that the plant is alive and can actually speak. The puppeteer will also play Wino #1 (a bum) in the first scene and sings in “Skid Row (Downtown)”. Acting and puppeteer experience preferred.
Voice (Audrey II:
Male OR Female. The Voice of the Plant is provided by an actor (male or female) on an offstage microphone. A street-smart, funky, conniving villain from outer space determined to destroy the human race. A smooth talker with a soulful singing voice. The voice is small at first and then begins to mature as the plant grows. The actor also appears onstage in the first scene and sings in “Skid Row (Downtown)”.
