Theatre’s Statement: “We're looking for actors who ‘be’ and do--and don't act like they are ‘being’ or doing. Don't want to see the work. A lot of people say I need Chicago-style actors. I just want good actors. The characters of Last Gas are not simpletons… They are dignified, flawed, working people who live in a beautiful, brutal, empty part of the world. These guys are ‘real’ people. Audiences should feel like they are watching something real… which blows up to become something much larger than reality, and ultimately transports.”

Seeking:

Lurene:

A slightly wounded woman who grew up in northern Maine, in the township where Last Gas takes place, but who now lives in New York City. She is home to bury her mother, and, maybe, for more than that. She is pretty -- for a small town. Probably goes unnoticed in New York. She is sweet, but there's a good bit of tart in her now, probably because she is just realizing that her life isn't quite what she thought it would be.

Guy:

34. Overweight, but not just fat. Strong, capable guy. Not unattractive. He is just a little past his prime. A good man. And very much a man. Unemployed and not used to it. Absolutely knows who he is. A brilliant thinker, but has no post-secondary education. He doesn't use fancy words. Doesn't need to. Knows what he wants and is going to get it.

Troy:

16. Love-child of Cherry-Tracy, a Forest Ranger, and Nat, a convenience store manager. A strapping, handsome kid - in a small-town way. There's an openness to him - his face, his way. He is much greater than his 34-year-old father, Nat. He is 16--but has moved into manhood quite seamlessly. Smartest person in the play. And may be starting to know it. He knows what he wants to do with his life. He is not disaffected. At all. That doesn’t mean he doesn't brood or that he can't be a bit dangerous or mysterious.

Dwight:

Nat's father. Quite a presence. Prefer a big man. Hopes his son will love Lurene more than just about anything in the world. His wife left him years ago, and that loss defines him to this day.
