Seeking:

Albin:

Man, late 40s - mid 50s. Lavish, self-indulgent, passionate, loving and talented drag queen. The featured star (ZaZa) of La Cage. She’s direct, devastating, honest and sincere. Extremely dedicated and devoted to Georges.

Jean-Michel:

Man, early 20s. Son of Georges (due to a short-lived affair 20 years prior). Good-looking, and knows it. Slightly cocky, slightly gauche. A loving heart, but a fearful attitude. Begins in a confusion of youthful selfishness but, due to events unfolding, matures a few years in a matter of hours. Requires a good dancer and strong actor/singer.

Anne Dindon:

Woman, early 20s or younger. Jean-Michel’s fianc

ée. Gorgeous, sprightly and attractive. Superficially a product of her strict and religious background, but a sexy and strong-willed girl underneath. Performer must be an excellent dancer.

Jacob:

Non-Caucasian man, 20s. Butler (or housemaid) and Albin’s personal assistant. High camp. As louche as he can be, but with a spiky wit and acid tongue. The epitome of wasp-ish camp. Needs to sing and dance.

Monsieur Dindon / Monsieur Renaud:

One actor plays both men, late 40s–50s. Track requires a good singer. Dindon: Anne’s father and leader of the Tradition, Family and Morality Party. Ramrod religious bigot. Self-made man, well-turned-out and as stiff as a board. Genuinely dislikable, and judgmental. Renaud: Amiable café owner. Possibly avuncular. All-around pleasant guy.

Madame Dindon / Madame Renaud:

One actress plays both women, late 40s – mid 50s. Track requires a good singer. Mme. Dindon: M. Dindon’s wife and Anne’s mother. Slightly subservient. A good heart pummeled into submission over the years by her husband’s demanding middle-class standards – values she shares at face value, but her heart disagrees. Somewhat birdlike and bewildered. Mme. Renaud: Chirpy, pleasant café owner.

Jaqueline:

Woman, 40s. Albin’s dear friend, and owner of one of the most exclusive restaurants on the coast – “Chez Jaqueline”. Self-made woman who has, presumably, used all her charms uninhibitedly to get where she’s got. A solid veneer of respectability hides a scarlet past. Strong, demanding and unafraid of Albin or anyone else. A celebrity collector. Sings.

Francis:

Man, early - mid 30s. Stage manager at La Cage aux Folles. Attractive, authoritative gay man. Dominant in the wings, but submissive between the sheets.

Understudy for Georges:

Onstage role is cast. Seeking Understudy only. Man, late 40s - mid 50s. Albin’s partner and owner/emcee of a Saint-Tropez nightclub, La Cage aux Folles. An urbane, upright homosexual. Loving and demonstrative. A little world-weary, dealing with the nightclub (and Albin) all these years. Role requires an exceptionally strong singer with good comedic timing.
