Lunch from 1:30 – 2:30.

Please prepare a brief pop song (up-tempo or ballad). Bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided, but may not transpose.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Seeking (all positions are available):

Charlie Price:

Caucasian, late 20s - early 30s. Just out of university. Really nice guy who has no clue what to do with the rest of his life. He’s handsome and lovable, but there’s a temper right under the skin. Henpecked by his girlfriend, and a little lost. Must have a great rock belt. LEAD.

Lola / Simon:

African American man, early 30s. A prizefighter’s physique, draped in satin. Heterosexual cross-dresser with a killer voice and winning ways. Versatile singer and performer. LEAD.

Nicola:

Caucasian, 20s. Charlie's girlfriend since school. Steel-willed, driven and uncompromising. Knows what she wants and goes for it. Must have a great pop voice. PRINCIPAL.

Lauren:

Caucasian, 20s, Caucasian. Beautiful working-class girl. Smart, practical and focused, but has had bad luck with men. Must have a pop voice with belt. PRINCIPAL.

Young Charlie:

Caucasian boy, age 10. This is our lead as a ten-year-old boy. Lost, quiet, reflective. Appears in the opening and closing sequences. Must have a great voice. PRINCIPAL.

Young Lola / Simon:

Boy, any ethnicity, 10. Lola as a ten-year-old boy. Already knows he’s destined to wear high heels. Must have a great voice. PRINCIPAL.

Don:

Caucasian, 30s–40s. Lola’s nemesis. Burly hyper-masculine bear of a factory worker. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

Pat:

Woman, 40s, any ethnicity. Officious office manager who will let loose her wild side when allowed. Lola’s love interest. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

Trish:

40s, any ethnicity. Factory worker with a husband and kids to worry over. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

George:

Caucasian, 40s-50s. Factory manager keeping up traditions. Reserved. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

Angels:

Character description updated 8/30/11 at 10:22 AM. Men, 20s–30s, any ethnicity. Divas, divas, divas needed. Not drag queens, not clowns, but true divas. If you think you’re Beyoncé, you’re close! MUST SING (the higher the better), must dance (in REALLY high heels) and must act like Bette Davis on a bad day. Voguers, tricksters and general out-of-the-box characters, step to the front of the line. BUT BE WARNED: you must have the goods! FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

Mister Price:

Caucasian, 50s. Charlie’s father. Owner of the shoe factory in the opening and closing sequences. Actor also plays a pub patron, factory worker, etc. for the rest of the show. Must have a good voice. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

Simon Sr.:

African American man, 50s. Lola’s father. Unforgiving tower of anger. Character appears in the opening and two scenes in Act II. Actors also plays the homeless man, a factory worker, etc. Must have a good voice. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

Harry:

20s–30s, any ethnicity. A contemporary of Charlie’s, but his opposite. Successful, self-aware and confident. Actor also plays a delivery man, factory worker, photographer, etc. Must have a good voice. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

Richard Bailey:

40s, any ethnicity. Nicola’s boss. Overtly attractive and successful. A real threat to Charlie. Actor also plays one of the hooligans, factory workers, etc. Must have a good voice. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

Mrs. Cobb:

Woman, 40s–50s, any ethnicity. Lola’s kindly old landlady in one scene. Actress also plays a factory worker, photographer, etc. Must have a good voice. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

Male Ensemble:

Characters are 20s–40s, any ethnicity. Performers appear in the ensemble and play various characters (hooligans, pub patrons, club patrons, referee, Milan stage manager, photographers, etc.). All must dance and have great pop voices. ENSEMBLE.

Female Ensemble:

Characters are 20s–40s, any ethnicity. Performers appear in the ensemble and play various characters (factory workers, photographers, etc.). All must dance and have great pop voices. ENSEMBLE.
