Lunch from 1:30 – 2. New York City

Please prepare a brief rock ‘n’ roll or contemporary musical theatre song (any song in the style of the show) that shows vocal/emotional range. Bring sheet music (including other selections) in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but may not transpose.

Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back.

Based on St. John’s Gospel account of the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his followers in Jerusalem, and ending with the Crucifixion.

This production was originally produced at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Canada); all principal roles are cast. Seeking possible future replacements for the Broadway company:

Jesus:

20s - early 30s. High tenor. VERY STRONG SINGER/ACTOR.

Judas:

Late 20s - early 30s. One of the 12 Apostles. Betrays Jesus. High tenor.

Herod:

Late 30s-50s. King of Judea. Loathes Jesus – believes he is a phony messiah.

Annas:

30s-50s. Priest. Persuaded by Caiaphas to feel threatened by Jesus. High tenor w/strong high D.

Caiaphas:

30s-50s. High Priest. Sees Jesus as a threat to the nation. Low D to high F (2+ octaves above the D).

Pontius Pilate:

40s-50s. Governor of Judea. Conflicted over handing down Jesus’ sentence. Baritone w/strong high B.

Mary:

20s - early 30s. Former prostitute. Follower of Jesus. Contemporary mezzo w/strong belt.

Casting directors’ statement: “Singers of all ethnicities are encouraged to attend.”
