Please prepare a Shakespeare monologue (2 minutes or less). Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back. Note, on resume, if you play an instrument.
Irondale is a 29-year-old permanent ensemble of actors who work together on a daily basis. The pieces (parts 2 and 3 of Irondale’s “1599 Project”) have been developed by thisensemble, and the Theatre is seeking a few actors to supplement the cast for these shows only.
Casting note: All roles are available unless otherwise specified. Actors play multiple characters. All should be able to sing. Playing an instrument is a plus.
JULIUS CAESAR by Shakespeare. 1st reh: 11/12/12. Runs 11/27-12/15 (W-Sa evenings, at the Irondale Center).
Popillius, Cicero and Publius:
Senators of Rome.
Metellus Cimber:
One of the conspirators against Caesar.
Artemidorus:
Learns of the conspiracy against Caesar and attempts to warn him, but is unable to get his message through.
Octavius:
Caesar’s nephew. Called to Rome by his uncle, he is greeted on its outskirts by the news of Caesar’s death.
Lepidus:
Senator of Rome. Present at Caesar’s death, and flees from it.
Assorted Crowd.
The following roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.
Flavius and Murellus:
CAST. Tribunes of the People of Rome.
Decius Brutus, Trebonius and Caius Ligarius:
CAST. Conspirators against Caesar.
Julius Caesar:
CAST. Great general of Rome; has recently won a civil war against Pompey, and returns to Rome in triumph.
Soothsayer:
CAST. Warns Caesar of the Ides of March, without giving any further details, being thereby accounted a dreamer.
Cassius:
CAST. A noble Roman, and the mastermind behind Caesar’s assassination.
Mark Antony:
CAST. Caesar’s closest companion. A young man much given to reveling, enjoying music and plays, he runs in the sacred race of the Feast of Lupercal, touching Calpurnia on the way in the hopes of curing her barrenness.
Casca:
CAST. Cynical Roman with no great taste for Caesar’s fooling over the crown.
Cinna the Poet:
CAST. Has the misfortune of having the same name as one of Caesar’s murderers, and of not being known for good writing. He is torn to pieces by a mob.
Lucius:
CAST. Brutus’s young servant.
Calphurnia:
CAST. Caesar’s wife.
Portia:
CAST. Daughter of Cato and wife of Brutus. She is proud of both of these, and is the definition of a stoic Roman woman.
Marcus Brutus:
CAST. A noble Roman, descended from the Brutus who liberated Rome from the tyrannical monarchy of the Tarquins.
AS YOU LIKE IT by Shakespeare. 1st reh: 4/22/13. Runs 5/7-30.
Adam:
Old servant of Sir Rowland’s, who greatly affections Orlando.
Denis:
Oliver’s servant. He brings in Charles the wrestler.
Corin:
Old shepherd in the Forest of Arden. He does not own the sheep he tends, as he is another man’s worker.
William:
Countryman in love with Audrey.
Hymen:
God of Marriage.
Rosalind:
The Old Duke’s daughter. When Duke Frederick took power, he did not exile her, and she and her cousin Celia soon became inseparable friends.
Jacques de Boys:
Second son of Sir Rowland.

Duke Frederick:
CAST. A usurper who took the throne from his brother and banished him from the land.
Amiens:
CAST. Lord attending on the exiled Duke.
Jaques:
CAST. Lord in Duke Senior’s party, a man who affects melancholy and whose name sounds the same as another word for “chamberpot”.
Charles:
CAST. The Duke’s wrestler. An honorable fellow, he comes to dissuade Oliver from letting Orlando participate in the wrestling the next day.
Orlando:
CAST. Youngest son of the deceased Sir Rowland de Boys.
Touchstone:
CAST. Duke Frederick’s jester, and so fond of Celia that he is willing to abandon the court to follow her to the forest, for all that he does not enjoy rural life.
Sir Oliver Martext:
CAST. Country vicar who is not considered likely to do his job well, which is the very reason Touchstone hopes to use him rather than another for his marriage to Aubrey.
Silvius:
CAST. Young shepherd, desperately in love with Phoebe and unwilling to believe that the aged can possibly understand his torment.
Celia:
CAST. Duke Frederick’s daughter. When the latter took power, she became acquainted with her cousin Rosalind, and they were soon inseparable.
Phoebe:
CAST. Dark-featured, black-haired, large-eyed shepherdess beloved by Silvius.
