Breakdown
ABUELA CLAUDIA
plays 60 plus, is the elder and matriarch of the barrio who knows everybody and is like a grandmother to all. Rooted in her Dominican culture. Strong actress - Alto belter.
VANESSA
late 20s, is Usnavi's love interest who works at Daniela's salon. Oozes sex appeal. She dreams of getting out of the barrio and getting an apartment downtown. Strong high belt. Great dancer.
NINA ROSARIO
early 20s Latina, is the daughter of Kevin and Camila. She is the first to go to college, and everyone in the barrio admires her. Vulnerable, charactery bookworm, intelligent, and still a bit 'green'. Needs to be a strong singer.
BENNY
late 20s, African-American, works at Kevin's dispatch. The only non-Spanish-speaking member of the community, he falls in love with Nina. Hardworking, optimistic, good guy. Bari-tenor who riffs; Needs to move well
SONNY
early 20s, is Usnavi's sassy, boyish, yet ambitious younger cousin who works in the bodega. Needs to be a strong mover. Very fun and young spirited. Demands rapping skills.
CARLA
20s, works at Daniela's salon along with Vanessa. Unspecified ethnicity (script says Chilie-Dominica-Rican). Innocent and often plays “dumber” than the other girls. A character.
KEVIN ROSARIO
40s, is Nina's father. Strong passionate Latino father who is overprotective of Nina. Hard exterior, Baritone.
GRAFFITI PETE
Early 20s, a graffiti artist and friend of Sonny. Very urban - Raps. Very strong featured dancer -Acrobatics a plus.
PIRAGUA GUY
30s-40s. Strong featured singing male. Authentic Spanish speaking.
