10 AM – 6 PM 500 Eighth Avenue, 12th Floor

Lunch from 1:30 – 2:30. New York City

Please prepare a brief song in the style of Frank Loesser, Hoagy Carmichael, Rodgers and Hart, Jule Styne, Sammy Cahn. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but may not transpose.

Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back.

New musical inspired by the life of Sammy Davis, Jr. The score includes several standards.

Seeking:

Stan Strada:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Caucasian Italian, 30s. Crooning pop star, friend of the Mafia, ladies’ man. “Chairman of the Board”. High baritone, very smooth. Vocally agile, swinging baritone.

Wendy Kerr:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Caucasian, mid – late 20s. A stunning movie star. Has grace, elegance, class and dignity. She is brave enough to defy the conventions of the period when she falls in love with Joey and marries him. Excellent singer, strong chest-mix.

Randi:

AVAILABLE ROLE. African American woman, mid – late 20s. Classy and sexy. Knows how to use sex to get what she wants. Has star power, and can change the temperature the moment she enters the room. Must be leggy and stunning, and a superb dancer. Must tap as well. Should have chest-mix and belt.

The following roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.

Joey Spencer, Jr.:

CAST. African American, mid 30s. This man has a remarkable gift of limitless talent. A brilliant singer, tap dancer, impressionist, etc. Before the Civil Rights movement, this man defied all odds and became the world’s greatest entertainer. A member of the Rat Pack, Joey endured political humiliation after the death of Joseph Kennedy, Sr. A man of great strength, humor, and dignity. Performer must be a superb singer and tapper. Joseph Spencer, Sr.:

CAST. African American, 50s. Joey Jr.’s well-meaning father. Joey Jr., Joseph Sr. and Jim begin their career as a trio of entertainers. Joseph Sr. knows that without Joey Jr. he would have no career. He is deeply proud of his son. A warm and loving man. Performer must sing and tap well. Note: Character name was changed on 1/17/12.

Jim Marshall:

CAST. African American, 50s. Joey’s uncle. Determined that Joey become a star, and encourages him at a very young age to begin performing. While his father is concerned that things may be happening for Joey Jr. too quickly, Jim is a driving force behind his career. Charismatic, energetic. Performer must sing and tap well.
