First rehearsal July 14, opens July 31, closes August 9
Lyman Wyeth (65-75): The patriarch of the family. A former Hollywood B and Reagan crony, Lyman is living a life of self-exile in Palm Springs. Warm and elegant with a wry sense of humor, Lyman cares deeply for his leftist children while clinging to a old school notion of Republican life. He is sturdy in the way of old Californians of a particular type.
Polly Wyeth (60-70): Tough, self righteous, graceful, funny, opinionated and at times overbearing, Polly is firm in her beliefs and deeply devoted to the preservation of her family. She considers herself a caretaker, having nursed Brooke and Silda back to health after their breakdowns. She has suffered grave disappointments over the years even as she has strived to keep up appearances. Elegant and forthright and whip-smart.
Brooke Wyeth (Early 30s-40) : Lyman and Polly's daughter, a writer who suffered an intense emotional breakdown and now lives in Sag Harbor, New York. She has arrived in a fragile state, having written an explosive, revealing biography of her family. She is intelligent and humorous, though tortured by the memory of her brother Henry's tragic death. An attractive and dry woman.
Trip Wyeth (Late 20's - mid 30s) : Lyman and Polly's youngest child, a TV producer for a courtroom show. Sardonic and quick witted, Trip struggles with his own demons but has a clear head when it comes to his concerns for the health of his family members. He loves his sister and his parents, and is pained by their divisions. A bright and funny young man.
Silda (60-70) : Polly's sister and former writing partner during their Hollywood days. She has just emerged from a stint in rehab and os struggling to maintain her sobriety. She is a staunch liberal, a favorite aunt and a wise cracking, impulsive though terribly fragile and reckless survivor. A mess. No makeup, hair dishelveled. She wears a muumuu, and carries a pill case marked with the days of the week.
