Independent Shakespeare Company is a diverse company of theater-makers passionate about classical theater and the Los Angeles community. Our working style is highly collaborative, energetic, and audience focused.

Local Los Angeles actors are encouraged to audition.

No roles will be understudied.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a 2-minute speech from Shakespeare or any poetic dramatic author. Also, please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

SEEKING:

General Ensemble: We seek actors who love language plays, want to explore the building blocks of story-telling, and wish to be part of an ensemble whose foundational values are creativity, connection, integrity, excellence, and joy. ISC’s team on stage and off stage reflects the Los Angeles community and we encourage BIPOC actors to audition. Everyone cast from these auditions must be available to do BOTH productions. The park is an extremely physical environment: physical and vocal stamina is imperative.

MIDSUMMER NIGHTS'S DREAM:

HERMIA: (20-30) Spirited with a wicked sense of humor, Hermia is a young woman who never gives up. Athletic/dance/acrobatic/musical ability a plus. Under 5’3” also a plus.

HELENA: (20-30) A young woman with depth, Helena is hopelessly in love, and prone to melancholy. When pushed to her breaking point, however, she discovers unknown resolve.

Athletic/dance/acrobatic/musical ability a plus. Over 5’5” also a plus.

PETER QUINCE: (any age, any gender) A practical and enthusiastic person, Peter is a secret writer, desperate to see their work presented on stage. Athletic/dance/acrobatic/musical ability a plus.

JULIUS CAESAR:

Julius Caesar: (45-65, any gender) Rome’s great general. Success has gone to their head somewhat and their ambition is starting to get the better of them. Will double with other roles.

Portia: (25-35) A stoic Roman woman and Brutus’s wife. She shows us the domestic side of the conspiracy to assassinate Caesar.

Casca: (35-45) Male. One of the conspirators and a cynic who sees through Caesar’s plan to be declared Emperor.
