THE ENGAGEMENT PARTY

By Samuel Baum

Directed by Darko Tresnjak

Rehearsal begins on September 5, 2023

LORT B

The play takes place during an intimate engagement dinner in an Upper East Side apartment one evening in early January, 2007.

SEEKING:

KATHERINE: Female, early 30s; blonde, classically beautiful, with a natural warmth about her; a pediatrician and deeply good person; fiancé of Josh, whom she met at Harvard; a “shiksa” who uses the term with ease; carefully arranged this dinner

JOSH: Male, early 30s; tall, handsome, charming, Jewish; has the confidence and charisma of a young, self-made millionaire; some rough edges beneath his charm; grew up poor in Canarsie, went to Harvard and now works for a hedge fund; fiancé of Katherine

CONRAD: Male, late 60s to early 70s; polished, WASPy, an imposing presence; a wealthy Wall Street banker; accustomed to getting what he wants; father of Katherine and husband of Gail

GAIL: Female, 60s; a Southern lady; graceful and upbeat, with a faint accent; exquisitely dressed; has an unexpected sense of humor; mother of Katherine and wife of Conrad, to whom she is loyal

HALEY: Female, early 30s; a doctor; free-spirited, hipster quality; brilliant but struggling, which she keeps private; Katherine’s best friend from Harvard; married to Kai, with whom she has a newborn

KAI: Male, early 30s; Asian-American; masculine, often intense, but likeable; works at the same hedge fund as Josh, his good friend from Harvard; married to Haley, with whom he has a newborn

ALAN: Male, early 30s; radical Left-wing philosophy professor; short, balding, witty; shabbily dressed; a friend from Harvard; has a very different value system from the others

JOHNNY: Male, early 30s; Italian-American; brawny, huge-hearted, funny, with a perceptiveness that was not cultivated in a classroom; an Army tank mechanic; Josh’s childhood friend from Canarsie; cares deeply about him

POTUS, OR BEHIND EVERY GREAT DUMBASS ARE SEVEN WOMEN TRYING TO KEEP HIM ALIVE

By Selina Fillinger

Directed by Jennifer Chambers

Rehearsal begins on December 5, 2023

LORT B

SEEKING:

HARRIET – Chief of Staff. A political bulldog who has chosen every aspect of her life, appearance, and personality in service of her career. A sexless and humorless middle- aged woman who lives and dies by the polls. Starts the play at a 7 and skyrockets from there. Everything is a means to the end.

JEAN – Press Secretary. A hawk in a turtleneck. A high-strung, quick-witted woman who can handle any pressroom and sterilize any scandal. A single working mother whose pristine life is threatened only by her knee-weakening attraction to disastrous sexual partners—one, in particularly. Harriet’s more polished and more tactful counterpart. Think CJ from West Wing, but with more bite, cynicism, and learned paranoia.

STEPHANIE – Presidential secretary. An obedient and diminutive creature, terrified of failure and perpetually on the edge of nervous breakdown. Deeply brilliant, just crippled by her own imposter syndrome. So much potential energy and rage just waiting to be set free.

DUSTY - President’s plaything. A glowing, curious, sex-positive (albeit, barely legal) girl with a multitude of skills and a bright future! Loves civic duty! Loves democracy! Determined to make the world better!

BERNADETTE – President’s sister. A total trash fire. Strife and mayhem. A coked-up tornado with raw sexual charisma, fiery temper, and fantastic sense of humor. Jean’s kryptonite.

CHRIS – A journalist. Overburdened, under-slept, postpartum, newly divorced, on the brink of irrelevancy. A dogged reporter with much to gain and everything to lose.

MARGARET – This role is cast. The First Lady. An impeccable combination of high fashion, corporate experience, and legal savvy. Regal, sophisticated, brimming with bitterness and pent- up rage. Goes for the jugular.

TINY FATHER

By Mike Lew

Directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel

Rehearsal begins on May 14, 2024

LORT B

SEEKING:

DANIEL (late 20s or 30s / Male / African American) - When he's not working as an events manager for a bookstore chain, he's a bit of a Star Trek and video game nerd. But his world is turned upside down after a friends-with-benefits relationship leaves him an unexpected father to a critically premature baby. Daniel must do his best to navigate fatherhood and a fraught healthcare system. Personable, quick-witted, and funny, with a giant heart.

CAROLINE (30S / Female / Asian American) - A night nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit, Caroline is capable and caring of the babies. Yet she knows half her job is something she's not actually trained for: acting as therapist to the parents. She struggles with being back to work and leaving her own little ones at home. And is spread thin by a hospital system that overtaxes and underappreciates its nurses. Caring but no nonsense and critical, she's unexpectedly funny in that she's not as funny as she thinks she is.

EVERY BRILLIANT THING

By Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donohoe

Directed by Colm Summers

Rehearsal begins on August 8, 2023

LORT D

This is a one-person show which is already cast. We need an understudy.

SEEKING:

UNDERSTUDY: We are looking for a female identifying, queer person who is bright and buoyant, inviting and approachable, sincere and affable, cheeky-charming, comedy bone ESSENTIAL, helpful if a little inscrutable or mysterious. Theatre/comedy/improv credentials ESSENTIAL. Not too dark, brooding, but helpful if they can make a sober turn. Major plus if this person can play piano.

BLACK CYPRESS BAYOU

by Kristen Adele Calhoun

directed by Tiffany Nichole Greene

Rehearsal begins on January 9, 2024

LORT D

SETTING: Down by the Black Cypress Bayou right outside of Lodi, Texas.

SEEKING:

LadyBird “Lady” Manifold: 35, African American, devoted. Ain't never lived nowhere but this little corner of the country. A rule follower until she’s not. Leads with her head. Loves a good book.

RaeMeka “Meka” Manifold-Baler: 33, African American, the only one in the family that's been on an airplane. A rule breaker. Leads with her heart. Closely connected to the healing powers of the land. A free spirit.

Vernita Manifold: 65, African American, a Texas woman through and through. Left home once but came right on back. A rule bender. Leads with her gut. More ferocious than most people realize.

Taysha Hunter: 25. A mystery.
