New play. In a fictional Caribbean country, Tony Romero has just returned from a year in prison. His American wife, Lakota, wants him to rejoin the revolutionary movement, but Tony wants to keep out of trouble. How far will Lakota go to bring Tony back into the struggle? And how far will they both go in pursuit of freedom?

Seeking:

Note: No need for any accents.

Lakota Logan/Romero:

American (half-Caucasian, half-Cherokee) woman, 20s-30s. Active in the Native American rights movement before marrying Tony and joining his revolutionary cause. Passionate and fiery. Fiercely believes in right and wrong, and she is always right.

Antonio (Tony) Romero:

Latino or Caribbean, 20s-30s. Former champion dancer. Son and grandson of famous revolutionaries. Studied in the US before meeting Lakota and moving back home to resume the struggle. Charismatic and vulnerable. Haunted by his past and prone to indecision, he has a fierce temper when pushed too far.

Francisco and Rosario:

Latino or Caribbean, 20s. Aspiring salsa dancer. In love with each other. Innocent and enthusiastic. Must be EXCELLENT DANCERS. Partner-dancing required.

Uncle Luis:

Latino or Caribbean, 60s. Famous drummer. Brother of Tony’s grandfather. He was never interested in politics, and is always trying to make peace. Wishes he had more power to stop the unrest. Likable, funny. Has seen it all.

Hector Zapata:

Latino or Caribbean, 30s-40s. Government operative whose job is to keep an eye on Tony and Karen. Tough and sneaky, with a desire to keep the government in power, and no tolerance for idealism or revolutionaries.

Lazaro Fuentes:

Latino or Caribbean, 20s-30s. A revolutionary; follower of Lakota and Tony. Idealistic and passionate; a doer, not a thinker. Foot-soldier for the revolution.
