Please prepare a brief song in the style of one of the shows in which you are interested. Choosing a song by the composer is not necessary. Bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided, but may not transpose.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

All dates are in 2011. Theatre’s casting note: “Looking for strong actor/singers-actress/singers (character and ingénue). All roles are open. Performers of all ethnicities are encouraged to attend.”

WEST SIDE STORY Music: Leonard Bernstein. Lyrics: Stephen Sondheim. Book: Arthur Laurents. Original Choreo: Jerome Robbins. Contract dates: 4/26-5/28.

Tony:

20s. Handsome, appealing, idealistic leader of “The Jets”. Strong actor and legit singer – lyric baritone/tenor, must have solid G, optional Bb, with a smooth, legit upper range.

Maria:

Hispanic, 20s. Beautiful girl on the brink of womanhood. Seeking strong actress/legit singer – lyric soprano with a lilting vocal quality.

Anita:

Hispanic, mid-late 20s. Striking, attractive, vivacious, outspoken, warm and commanding. Must be a superb dancer/actress/singer (alto, 2nd soprano belt).

Bernardo:

Hispanic, mid-late 20s. Smart, witty, passionate, strong-willed and dynamic leader of “The Sharks”. Must be a superb dancer/actor/singer (baritone).

Riff:

Mid 20s. Tony’s best friend and right-hand man. Sharp, street-smart, rough-edged and quick- tempered. Must be a superb dancer/actor/singer (baritone).

Doc:

50s. Warm, intelligent, philosophical man. Blue-collar; owns the neighborhood hangout drugstore. Tony’s boss, mentor and friend. Non-singing role.

Shrank:

40s-50s. Police lieutenant. No-nonsense, straightforward and jaded. He’s seen it all. Non-singing role.

Krupke:

30s-40s. Cop on the beat. Not very effective, not too bright, thinks he looks tough. Non-singing role.

‘S WONDERFUL Score: George and Ira Gershwin. Concept: Ray Roderick. Musical Arrangements: Rick Hip-Flores. Contract dates: 5/17-6/18.

Theatre states: “The five members of this cast need to be experienced leading players, required to flesh out dynamic characters in a short time span. This is a new show that may have legs. We are seeking incredibly charismatic old fashioned triple threat performers.

“We are listing the names of celebrities that inspired these characters. Actors need not look like these individuals, but should invoke a feeling of familiarity and manifest certain qualities and characteristics inherent in these individuals.”

Harold:

20s-30s. Character is the centerpiece of the madcap 1928 NYC story. “Harold” is a nod to Harold Lloyd. Seeking strong actor/singer/dancer, versed in all styles of dance and partnering. Tenor/baritone. Needs to have strong comedic chops.

Nina:

African American, 20s-30s. Nina is the central character in the 1957 New Orleans story. Think Nina Maye McKinney or Billie Holiday. Seeking strong actress/singer (jazz/blues) and good mover. Alto belt.

Leslie:

Woman, 20s-30s. Character is the centerpiece of the 1939 “American in Paris” story, from her (a woman’s) point of view. Inspired by Leslie Caron. Mezzo soprano, lyric with strong mix. Beautiful dancer (ballet training).

Jane:

20s-30s. Centerpiece of the 1948 Hollywood story. Seeking strong actress/singer/dancer with great comedic chops, a la Carol Burnett. Alto belt, with mezzo soprano.

Gene:

20s-30s. Central character in the contemporary story, about long-distance love. “Gene” is a nod to Gene Kelly. Seeking strong actor/singer and athletic dancer. Baritone/tenor and lyric leading man.

LEGALLY BLONDE Score: Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin. Book: Heather Hach. Contract dates: 6/7-7/9.

Elle Woods:

Eearly 20s. Exudes total confidence, complete with a positive attitude and heart of gold. Sharp comic skills, strong high belt and dancing ability.

Warner:

Early 20s. Striking good looks, dashing, but a bit entitled; believes that his name will get him everywhere in life. Sharp comedic timing, strong singing voice (pop tenor).

Professor Callahan:

Man, 40s-50s. Handsome professor at Harvard Law School. Intelligent, strong sense of entitlement; knows how smart he is, and uses it to manipulate others. Sharp comic skills and a strong singing voice.

Paulette:

30s-40s. Elle’s manicurist. Not the brightest bulb. Has good intentions. Insecure but kind-hearted. Sharp comic skills and a strong singing voice (pop mezzo).

Emmett:

Mid - late 20s. Intelligent, witty, lovable. Teaching assistant at Harvard Law. Quirky and cute. Sharp comic skills and a strong singing voice.

Vivienne:

Early - mid 20s. Uptight Harvard student, with a privileged attitude; brilliant and snobbish. Comes from a prestigious family. Sharp comic skills and a strong high belt singing voice.

Brooke:

Late 20s – early 30s. Gorgeous, confident creator of her own fitness empire, with a flawless body to show for it. Not afraid to give her opinions; anything but a pushover. Sharp comic skills and a strong singing voice.

Margot:

Early 20s. One of Elle’s best friends and sorority sister. Sweet. A little on the dim side. Strong singer, great comedic timing and dancing ability.

Pilar:

Early 20s. One of Elle’s best friends and sorority sister. Beyonce wanna-be. Adorable, playful, energetic. Strong singer, great comedic timing and dancing ability.

Serena:

Early 20s. One of Elle’s best friends and sorority sister. Loyal to her “sisters”. Lovable, high-energy. Strong singer, great comedic timing and dancing ability.

Enid:

20s. Harvard student; wickedly smart and cocky. Strong comic skills and a strong pop belt voice.

Theatre’s statement: “Performers of all ethnicities are encouraged to attend.”
