A mother always knows when something is wrong. When Alice notices her beloved husband, Bill has returned home on edge after a tennis match with their son, she grows suspicious and springs into action. Determined to piece together the puzzle, she invites her son, Billy, and daughter-in-law, Jane, over for drinks and dessert. Sidesplitting chaos ensues as Alice digs for the truth, resulting in even more honesty than anyone expected. Shattering and hilarious, Clever Little Lies is a story of long-term love and marriage…for better…and for worse.

Billy – (30-25), A young married man who just had his first child, fit. He is caught up in an extra-marital affair and it is causing him much stress, especially with his parents when they learn of it. Funny, charming, handsome and struggling with his conscience.

Jane – (30-35), Billy's attractive young wife. Just had their first child. She is loving and well-meaning but a bit scattered now in her state, concerned about pleasing Billy. Should have an appealing sense of humor.

Bill Sr. – (50’s), A decent man, attractive, a good sense of humor, and flustered by his son's indiscretions and ultimately revealing of his own complicated past with his wife. Also fit, (plays tennis with his son).

Alice – (50’s), Billy’s mother, attractive, a meddler, strong matriarch with a good sense of humor, but also has a touching softer side to her beliefs on the preservation of family and marriage.

BROWNSVILLE SONG b-side for tray)

by Kimber Lee

Director: TBA

Begins rehearsal: January 3, 2017

Show opens: January 27, 2017

Show closes: April 1, 2017

Set in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, brownsville song (b-side for tray) is a powerful tale of resilience in the face of tragedy. Moving fluidly between past and present, this bold new play tells the story of Tray, a spirited African-American 18-year-old and his family, who must hold on to hope when Tray's life is cut short.

Tray – (18), Black, male. Works hard at school and spends his afternoons training at the neighborhood boxing gym. Huge heart, but also can carry himself with an edge. Has a terrific sense of humor, and loves his family fiercely. Doesn't see himself as a victim of anything. Very charming.

Lena - (Late 50s/mid 60s), Black, female. Tray's grandmother. A fierce protector and advocate of her family; works two jobs. Unsentimental about the conditions of her life and the lives around her, can be very fierce but also has a great sense of humor; love comes fiercely and fully to and through her.

Devine – (9 years old), Black/Korean American, female. Extremely active inner life, she interacts with the world very cautiously. She can be full of life and fun just like any kid, but when frightened she retreats into memories of her brother to survive. Very observant and intuitive, she sees everything.

Merrell - ( Mid 30s), Korean American, female. Tray's stepmother and Devine's biological mother. Carries herself with an edge, very strong; struggled with a very serious alcohol addiction, now a recovering addict. Has a wry sense of humor; has deep pain about failing others, but is determined to show up and do whatever it takes to be a part of her family’s lives again.

Junior (also doubles as Brooklyn College Student) – (Late teens), Black, male. Tray’s childhood friend from the neighborhood; charming, funny, fast-talking, the life of the party where ever he goes. Has a way of finding trouble.

RICH GIRL

by Victoria Stewart.

Director: TBA

Begins rehearsal: March 14, 2017

Show opens: April 7, 2017

Show closes: May 27, 2017

Claudine's mother has it all: she's wealthy, successful, and famous, press notes state. Claudine is awkward, shy, and forever living in her mother's shadow. When a dashing artist sweeps Claudine off her feet, her mother is convinced that all he's after is her money. A modern retelling of the Henry James novel 'Washington Square,' which became the stage and screen classic The Heiress, Rich Girl is a moving and funny new play about mothers and daughters, love and money, and whether they can ever coexist.

Eve – (50s), a financial guru, poised, hard as nails, used to talking points, distant.

Claudine – (mid 20s), her daughter, gawky and adolescent even at the age of 26, aloof to most social/romantic cues. Not necessarily naïve, but definitely a bit sheltered having grown up with privilege.

Maggie – (40s), Eve's personal assistant, the Thelma Ritter role, a romantic in a non-romantic world, loyal.

Henry – (27), Claudine’s new found friend from high school, smart, extremely good looking, more than a little suspect, a starving artist who directs experimental plays, and very interested in Claudine.

THE EXONERATED

by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen

Director: Kate Alexander

Begins rehearsal: April 4, 2017

Show opens: April 14, 2017

Show closes: April 23, 2016

Culled from interviews, letters, transcripts, case files and the public record, The Exonerated tells the true stories of six wrongfully convicted survivors of death row in their own words. Moving between first-person monologues and scenes set in courtrooms and prisons, the six interwoven stories paint a picture of an American criminal justice system gone horribly wrong—and of six brave souls who persevered to survive it.

Delbert – 60s, African American; a seminary dropout, radical and poet. His whole personality is like an old soul song: smooth, mellow and with an underlying rhythm that never lets up. Actors playing Delbert should take care to find his substantial sense of humor; in addition to his obvious depth.

Sunny – 50s, White; a bright, pixie-ish yoga teacher from California, her lightness and positivity contrast with moments of great depth and clarity.

Robert – 30s, African American; a former horse groomer from the deep south; hardened but not lacking a sense of humor. Deep rural Mississippi accent.

Georgia/Female Ensemble 1 – 30s, African American; Robert’s wife, also southern; opinionated, outspoken, and extremely warm. She and Robert have a loving contentious relationship. Loves to speak her mind.

Gary – mid 40s, White; a Midwestern hippie and an organic farmer. Clearly was in his element in the late 60s and early 70s. He is generally good-natured, friendly, and quite smart.

Kerry – mid 40s, White; a 19 year old trapped in a 45-year-old’s body, born and bred in Texas. Kerry was imprisoned for 22 of his 45 years and is eager to rediscover the world. Always wants to make sure he connects with whomever he is talking to. Strong Texas accent.

Delbert – 40, African American; a gentle, sad man, born and raised in northern Florida (otherwise known as Southern Alabama). Has a very strong spiritual sense and had aspirations to the ministry before being put on death row at 18. He is continually engaged in a battle between resignation and hope.

Sandra/Sue/Female Ensemble 2 – early 40s, White; Sandra is married to Kerry. Sweet nurturing, loves Kerry dearly and has a great sense of humor about her. She has a strong Texas accent. Sue is married to Gary. Salt of the earth; she is also an organic farmer. She has a strong upper Midwestern accent – think Fargo.

Male Ensemble 1 and 2 – 35-50s, both white; play a variety of roles. Both actors should be good with dialects and characterization, and different from each other in build and appearance. Both roles require highly versatile, commanding actors.
