SHOW DESCRIPTION: When the young Felix Mendelssohn sets out on his first adventure to Scotland, his beloved sister, Fanny, is heartbroken that she has to stay home. Fanny awaits Felix’s letters breathlessly, which sometimes include lines of new music. And through his music -- inspired by crumbling castles, lively bagpipes, violent ocean waves, and the enchanted Fingal’s Cave -- Fanny is transported to her brother’s side. And if we really listen, we get to go too. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: Fanny Mendelssohn : (30’s to play 23 and 36) – steady and wise older sister, has maternal feelings toward the brother she is devoted to. Imaginative, with the open spirit to live vicariously through her brother’s travels while she is stuck at home, a smart, talented musician in her own right. Children love her. Felix Mendelssohn (30’s to play 20 & 32) – the great German composer. We meet him first before he is famous, reluctant and shy to strike out on his travels that are to inform his future work. He transforms into a passionate artist whose eyes are opened to the wonder of the world, an adoring brother. Bagpiper – Male. To play a lively Scottish folk tune on solo bagpipe. We are looking for an adaptable player; musically able to experiment with known melodies and perhaps play with some variations. Will also play additional non-speaking roles including a Sea Captain, Prince Albert, and others. Must feel comfortable with movement. Actors/Dancers – 30’s. One male and one female to play various, non-speaking roles. Must be proficient in Scottish Highland Dance.
