Please prepare a brief song, preferably in the style of the show. Songs from the show are welcome. Have a second song ready, if asked. Bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided.
Please bring a picture and resume, stapled back-to-back.
OPEN Auditions (Equity/non): Tu, 12/20/11, 10 AM – 2 PM (producer’s monitor begins sign-in at 9) at Ripley-Grier Studios, 520 Eighth Avenue, 17th Floor. The producer will run all aspects of this 12/20 call. Equity audition procedures will NOT be in effect, and no Equity Monitor will be provided. Auditioning performers may be asked to stay for a callback, which will be held later in the day.
Callbacks are planned for the afternoon of 12/20. There will be dancing at callbacks.
Local-touring production, in a special, two-performer, 45-minute version performed in NYC public elementary, middle and high schools. After each performance there is a short talkback with the audience.
Seeking (both roles are available):
Note: Performers will be hired as Actor/ASMs. ASM duties are: 1) Arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the call to load van (usually 6:45). 2) At site, load out van and assist SM with set-up of the set, costumes and sound. 3) At end of performance, dismantle set and sound and load back into the van. 4) Once back at the IB office, load out the production back to its designated area.
Male:
African American character, 20s – early 30s. Seeking baritenor with legit and belt. Sings to G/A. Must be a very good tap dancer (also needed: background in theatre dance, jazz dance and soft shoe). Must be able to play a range of characters, and give 100% at a 9 AM performance. Must be comfortable singing in various styles, and have facility communicating with young audiences. Must have a sense of humor and be able to convey that to a young audience.
Female:
African American character, 20s – early 30s. Seeking mezzo with legit top and belt range. G below middle C, belt to Bb/C, legit to G/A. Must be a very good tap dancer (also needed: background in theatre dance, jazz dance and soft shoe). Must be able to play a range of characters, and give 100% at a 9 AM performance. Must be comfortable singing in various styles, and have facility communicating with young audiences. Must have a sense of humor and be able to convey that to a young audience.
