Note: This is a co-production with 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle WA (WCLO Agreement). Actors cast in the roles of Meg Boyd, Lola, Gloria and Joe Hardy must be available for BOTH runs (NJ and Seattle). All other roles are being cast just for the Paper Mill portion of the production.
Joe Boyd:
50s. Avid Washington Senators fan who would sell his soul to see them win. Married to Meg. Secretly yearned to be a professional baseball player his whole life. Baritone.
Meg Boyd:
40s-50s. Joe’s devoted and faithful wife. Soprano.
Mr. Applegate:
Ageless. The Devil in disguise. A slick salesman who is charming, extremely intelligent and wickedly funny. Has to successfully deliver a solo vaudeville turn.
Joe Hardy:
Joe Boyd’s alter ego – the 22-year-old, home-run-hitting hero of the Washington Senators. Handsome, earnest, athletic. Strong lyric baritone.
Lola:
Ageless. Applegate’s seductive assistant. Superb singer/dancer/actress required. Mezzo.
Sister:
40s-50s. Meg’s outgoing, wisecracking friend.
Doris:
40s. Another friend of Meg. Sister’s sister.
Van Buren:
Man, 40s. The hard-working manager of the Washington Senators, with great heart but no luck. Baritone.
Mr. Welch:
50s. Owner of the Washington Senators. No-nonsense, good-hearted businessman.
Gloria Thorpe:
CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. 25-40. Hard-boiled, probing reporter who works for the local paper. Sharp, gal Friday-type belter who moves extremely well. Alto.
