ALL auditions and call backs are in Solana Beach, California. Seeking: MONA KENT: 30 - 45 years of age, a torrid, temperamental, tough-as-nails musical-comedy star (like Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street) who tap dances and sings torch songs. She pairs up with The Captain. Alto (low G to D sharp): “Wall Street,” “That Mister Man of Mine,” “Dames at Sea,” “The Beguine,” “Echo Waltz,” “Let’s Have a Simple Wedding.” JOAN: 20 – 35 years of age, a wise-cracking, goodtime-girl chorine, like Joan Blondell in 1930s Busby Berkeley musicals, who can belt out a tune and tap her toes off. She pairs up with Lucky. Belter (low A to D): “Choo-Choo Honeymoon,” “Good Times Are Here to Stay,” “Dames at Sea,” “Singapore Sue,” “Echo Waltz,” “Let’s Have a Simple Wedding.” RUBY: 18 - 25 years of age, a sweet-faced, good-hearted star-to-be who arrives on a bus from Utah with"nothing but a pair of tap shoes in her suitcase and a prayer in her heart," like Ruby Keeler in 1930s Busby Berkeley musicals. She pairs up with Dick. Mezzo who can belt (low A flat to E): “It’s You,” “The Sailor of My Dreams,” “Dames at Sea,” “Raining in My Heart,” “There’s Something About You,” “Echo Waltz,” “Star Tar,” “Let’s Have a Simple Wedding.” DICK: 20 - 30 years of age, a good-natured, handsome, hard-working, sailor / aspiring song-writer, like Dick Powell in 1930s Busby Berkeley musicals. He pairs up with Ruby. Bari-tenor (low A flat to high A): “It’s You,” “Broadway Baby,” “Dames at Sea,” “There’s Something About You,” “Let’s Have a Simple Wedding.” LUCKY: 20 - 30 years of age, a goofy, fun-loving, romantic sailor and a former flame of Joan’s who quickly finds himself renewing their sweet “sidekick” romance. Character baritone (low A to F): “Choo-Choo Honeymoon,” “Singapore Sue,” “Let’s Have a Simple Wedding.” HENNESSEY/THE CAPTAIN: 30 - 50 years of age. One actor plays both roles. Hennesesey is an ambitious, down-on-his-luck Broadway producer (Julian Marsh in 42nd Street), The Captain, commanding officer of Dick and Lucky’s battleship, pairs up with Mona Kent. Tenor (C to high A flat): “Dames at Sea,” “The Beguine,” “Let’s Have a Simple Wedding.” FOR THE AUDITION, PREPARE: (1) A short musical-theatre song—preferably comic—under two minutes in length. Bring sheet music in the correct key. (2) If you have tap shoes, bring them. Come prepared to move.
