These two roles are cast. Seeking understudies and possible (emergency) replacements for
Delphine Calamari:
Played by a male actor who should read 30s. Delphine is a plus-sized woman of Italian descent. Along with her younger sister, she hosts a madcap cable-access cooking show. Delphine is a lovable battle-axe who is in charge of the show and kitchen. She handles herself in a no-nonsense way, telling it like it is. Please note that although the character is plus-sized, the actor should be extremely physically fit. Heavy, figure-altering costumes will require strong physical conditioning. Must be a strong actor/singer/comedian. Must move very well and be a strong tapper. Baritenor from low A to high A, clean falsetto D above middle C. Excellent improvisational and audience-participation skills are required.
Carmela Calamari:
Played by a male actor who should read 30s. Carmela is four years younger than Delphine. She is also plus-sized, and is the co-hostess of the cooking show. She's an over-the-top flirt who has had a string of lovers. A little bit flaky and ditsy, she carries herself with a confidence and sensuality that belies her size. Please note that although the character is plus-sized, the actor should be extremely physically fit. Heavy, figure-altering costumes will require strong physical conditioning. Looking for a strong actor/singer/comedian. Must move very well (strong dancer, comfortable with jazz and hip hop). Baritenor, low G to high G; strong mix to high C. Whistling, whip-cracking, baton-twirling and ukulele-playing are pluses.
