Paul Barrow is an obsessive book editor on a major deadline. With an assistant who's been camping in the office, a famous author threatening to bail on him and an intern who is no help at all, Paul's just about had it! But when his fiery daughter shows up and lambasts him in Russian, Paul faces a glaring personal error that can't be corrected with red ink.

Seeking:

Harper:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Seeking actress 18+ to play 16/17. Harper is Paul’s daughter. Aggressive, rebellious and deeply sad. Grief over her mother’s death has created a chasm between Harper and her father. Lonely, delightfully eccentric, and too smart for her own good, she is surviving on her wits and creativity. Cries for help – by speaking only in Russian for weeks – until she gets expelled from boarding school. She is determined to be heard by her father, and willing to go to great lengths to connect with him.

Vanessa Finn Adams:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Mid 30s - mid 50s. Paul’s highest-profile fiction writer. A big personality. Passionate, eccentric, demanding. Smart, sexy and successful, with a flair for the dramatic. Her flirtation with Paul is outrageous by design, but she’s more observant than she appears.

Bailey:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Woman, 21. Paul’s new intern, a senior at Vassar. Bright and eager, but easily intimidated. Totally overwhelmed by Paul. She just wants her one credit so she can graduate!

The following two roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.

Paul Barrow:

CAST (David Hyde Pierce). 50s. Powerful book editor. Intellectual, exacting, deliberately cut off from his emotions.

Steve:

CAST. 40. The office manager at Paul’s office. Definite stoner vibe; doesn’t quite live in the real adult world. But he’s a mellow, gentle soul with an unexpected emotional intelligence. Very positive, in his own peculiar way. Has been run out of his apartment by his own dog, so sleeps in a tent in the office.
