Equity Principal Auditions:

Wednesday, October 24, 2012     at Theatre Row Studios

10:30 AM to 6:30 PM     411 West 41st Street (bet. 9th and Dyer)

Lunch from 2 – 2:30.     New York, NY 10036

          (building will not be open until 9:30 AM)

 

Prepare a 1 minute contemporary dramatic monologue AND 16 bars of an American traditional folk song or contemporary pop song.  Bring sheet music in correct key; accompanist provided but may not transpose.

Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

 

Inspired by Bertolt Brecht's inflammatory play Baal, Clive tracks a dissipated songwriter in 1990s New York City from the hedonistic heights of seduction and consumption into an ecstasy of self-destruction. At once a celebration and a nightmare vision of life lived for pleasure, Clive boasts an eclectic selection of classic American songs performed live.

 

Seeking Equity male and female actors who must be comfortable with singing for the following:

 

Big Sister (1st Woman) -- also plays Emily, Svetlana, 1st Fool, 3rd Junkie, and Maja.  Age range: 30 to 45. Need a versatile character actor. May sing.

 

Little Sister (2nd Woman) -- also plays Louise, Bartender, 2nd Junkie.  Age range: 22 to 32. Need a versatile character actor. May sing.

 

3rd Woman – Joanna, Sophie, 6th Junkie, Young Woman, Waitress. Need a versatile character actor. May sing.

 

Mech (1st Man) -- also plays Bum, Boss, Priest, 1st Junkie, Jama, 1st Fisherman. Age range: 40 to 70. Need a versatile character actor. May sing.

 

Joey (3rd Man) -- also plays Lupu, 3rd Fool, 5th Junkie, Goo, 2nd Mountie, 3rd Fisherman. Age range: 25 to 45. Need a versatile character actor. May sing.

 

The following roles have been CAST.  Actors auditioning may be considered for possible replacements if needed:

 

Clive – ROLE CAST. A charismatic performer with a nihilist streak. Fun-loving, pleasure-seeking, but will manipulate, destroy relationships, and create chaos, all for a vivid experience.

 

Doc – ROLE CAST. Clive’s companion and his closest thing to a friend. Brilliant and challenging, he’s a passionate, almost mystic seeker. Has a gruff and confident exterior, but at heart a follower.

 

Middle Man – ROLE CAST. Plays Pillar, Huey, Landlord, 2nd Fool, 4th Junkie, Police Officer, Boo, 1st Mountie, 2nd Fisherman. Need a versatile character actor. May sing.

 

Piano – ROLE CAST. Male, 30-50. Small chorus role. Plays piano.

 

Violin – ROLE CAST. Female, 25-40. Small chorus role. Plays violin.
