SEEKING:

Stine:

Male, Late 30s- early 40s, a likeable and decent guy, but he is seduced by Hollywood and his hunger for film success makes him compromise his values, in both art and life. As the show progresses he gets angrier and his sense of humor becomes edgier. Prototype: Kirk Douglas in THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL.

Stone:

Male Late 30s-early 40s, tough cynical, world-weary, wry, masculine with enough testosterone to populate a nation. Prototype: Robert Mitchum in OUT OF THE PAST, Humphrey Bogart in anything, especially THE BIG SLEEP.

Buddy/Irwin:

Male, late 40s to 50s, a smarmy film director/producer. He is a crass, egomaniacal bully. Nevertheless, he is often outrageously funny. He speaks faster than anyone in the show and uses the speed of his delivery to manipulate people. Irwin is a sleazy movie mogul.

Jimmy Powers:

Male, Late 20s – early 30s, A crooner. Slick. It helps if he is physically slight, slender. Maybe not very tall. Described as having wonderful (fake) teeth.

Peter Kingsly / Gerald Pierce:

30s, is an attractive, corrupt and somewhat cowardly young man. A boy toy. By the end of the show, we find out that he's not as bad as he initially seemed. Gerald Pierce is the character who he plays in the “movie”.

Luther Kingsley/Werner Krieger:

Male 70s, very distinguished looking actor. Since all we see of Luther Kingsely, until the last scene is his head, it helps if he's got a powerful speaking voice - fighting for breath. He's described as having the head of a lion. Werner Krieger is the cranky veteran actor he plays in the “movie”.

Lt. Munoz/Pancho Vargas:

Male, Latino, in his late 30s / early 40s. Lt. Munoz is tough and bitter, with an ax to grind. Pancho Vargas, the actor who plays Munoz, is a bit too bright and enthusiastic - perhaps to compensate for being a minority in 1940s Hollywood.

Oolie/ Donna:

Late 30s, early 40s. Oolie is Stone's Girl Friday: smart, loyal, knowing, resourceful, quick, with a great sense of humor. But she inspires affection rather than desire in Stone, and she knows it. Donna, Buddy's secretary, is smart and attractive but she compromises and settles all too easily, in both love and work. Prototype: Eve Arden in every movie she’s been in

Alaura/Carla:

Female 30s, Alaura is a seductive, manipulative and conniving femme fatale. Carla: Buddy's glamorous, smart, and sophisticated wife. She is one half of a Hollywood power couple and knows the drill. She and her husband sleep around and keep up appearances. Prototypes: Lana Turner in THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE, Barbara Stanwyck in DOUBLE IMDEMNITY

Bobbi/Gabby:

Female, 30s. Bobbi, the torch singer, is beautiful, tragic, and haunted - always making bad choices in life. A touch of Blanche Dubois.. Gabby is Stine's wife and his conscience - smart, strong, and sophisticated. A straight shooter.

Mallory/Avril/ (a brief cameo) Bootsy:

Female, 20s. Mallory is a sexy bad girl (though not as bad as she initially seems - just very promiscuous). The character is clearly based on the nymphomaniac younger sister from"The Big Sleep." Avril is a dumb yet ambitious starlet who wants Mallory's part in the movie to be bigger. Very well acquainted with a casting couch.
