Seeking (all roles/chorus positions are available):
Lili:
18-20. Orphaned. Optimistic and impressionable. She is, at first, infatuated with Marco the Magician, but over the course of the drama becomes conflicted over her feelings for Paul.
Paul:
The puppeteer. Ex-professional dancer; slightly disabled* war veteran. On the surface, Paul is mad at the world and unable to reach out to others. Underneath are all of the mischievous, sensitive and fun-loving characteristics of the puppets he has created. *Paul’s disability is loosely defined. We know from the text that it prevents him from a professional dance career. The physical manifestation may rest anywhere between “hardly noticeable” to “prominent”.
Marco:
A charismatic magician. A lady magnet. Underneath his playboy lifestyle, he cares about Rosalie and is interested in protecting Lili.
Rosalie:
Still-beautiful but past-her-prime showgirl. Marco’s mistress/magician’s assistant. Deeply in love with Marco. Hot-tempered.
Jacquot:
Assistant puppeteer. Paul’s best friend, and sometimes voice of reason. Gentle, level and caring. A true lover of carnival life; his dream is to play the Paris circuit once again.
B. F. Schlegel:
Grumpy ringmaster of “Cirque de Paris”.
Five - Six Men:
Play various characters including Grobert, the sleazy souvenir peddler; Dr. Glass, Rosalie’s wealthy veterinarian boyfriend; the Roustabouts who set up the carnival elements; and others.
Two – Four Women:
Play various characters including Greta Schlegel, B. F. Schlegel's spoiled, pampered daughter; Princess Olga, a seductive snake-charming mistress; Gladys and Gloria Zuwicki, conjoined twins; etc.
EPAs/Season Dramas: 2/11 and 2/27/12. See separate notice.
