1931 Berlin, and the fragile Weimar Republic is being torn apart by radical politics on the right and left. But inside the Cabaret, the world is alive with seedy glamour and a kind of freedom never known before -- for now. A young, broke American finds himself entangled by the dreams of the unforgettable Sally Bowles, who initiates him to the pleasures -- and dangers -- of the Cabaret. One of the great musicals of the last century is brought to passionate, vibrant, imaginative life by Artistic Director Eric Rosen (Venice, A Christmas Story, Winesburg, Ohio) -- and pays homage to Kansas City native and legend John Kander, who, along with Fred Ebb, created one of the most wondrous and powerful theatrical scores ever.
Seeking:
Sally Bowles:
(20-24) A British cabaret singer at the Kit Kat Klub. She is very young, very beautiful, vibrant, alive, fun, seemingly carefree. We are looking for a future star -- someone young, beautiful, fresh, brilliant, talented, and still undiscovered…until now. Hoping to “discover” a young star with this part - someone who will blow our socks off. Vocally brilliant, who is also an incredibly gifted actress we must all fall in love with. She must be able to pull off a great British accent. She needs to be able to strongly belt up to a D and be a talented dancer as well. SHE NEEDS TO BE AMAZING AND ABLE TO CARRY THIS SHOW.
Clifford Bradshaw:
(mid 20s – 30) He is an American writer in Berlin looking for inspiration for his next novel. Fresh faced, good looking, and ethereally handsome and charming in an old fashioned way. Attractive to both men and women. Excellent singer and actor - who is comfortable dancing/moving well. A lyric baritone
Ernst Ludwig:
(late 20s to 40) Aryan. German, upper class. Charming. A bit of a playboy who is streetwise and appears to be in the smuggling business. It seems as if he could see right through those who he is talking to. Excellent singer and actor. Must be able to do a believable German accent. (No need to dance). Tenor.
Emcee:
(30 and under…looks young) Master of ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub. Charismatic, odd and fascinating. We can’t take our eyes off him. He’s mysterious, contemporary, and arresting . Slight, mercurial, strange-looking and can create a very unusual, bizarre, offbeat, dangerous character. Very much a Brechtian narrator who can carry the numbers he is in and then seemingly disappear into thin air. He can be small, odd, any size, really – fascinating and unusual. An especially good dancer as well as someone who is incredibly engaging and also FUN. He’s vocally all over the place, so he’d have to be an especially flexible, strong, talented singer.
Ensemble/Chorus Member:
To cover Sally Bowles (Early – mid 20s)
