Breakdown
TheatreSquared's 2011/2012 season includes a wide variety of offerings, including BOEING-BOEING, a classic French farce; a new adaptation of IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE; a regional premiere of TIGERS BE STILL; and a new play recently premiered at Alabama Shakespeare Festival, THE FALL OF THE HOUSE. For these auditions, we will be seeing actors primarily for BOEING-BOEING and THE FALL OF THE HOUSE.
Character Breakdown:
BOEING-BOEING BERNARD (25-40) – an American architect and swinging bachelor. He is a combination of Don Draper and Jack Tripper. A ladies man who thinks he has the fairer sex completely figured out.
BERTHA (40s-60s) – Bernard's long-suffering housekeeper, cut from the cloth of the comedy of manners.
ROBERT (25-40) – Bernard's old friend. Not a worldly chap. Jerry Lewis to Bernard’s Tony Curtis.
GABRIELLA (25-35) – the Italian fiancée, with a casual sensuality. A stewardess.
GLORIA (25-35) – the American fiancée, possibly southern, with an upbeat disposition. A stewardess.
GRETCHEN (25-35) – the German fiancée blessed with an aggressive nature. A stewardess.
FALL OF THE HOUSE
MUNNY, 17, 55 & very old, African American; escaped slave, charismatic, a healer
ELIZA POE, 24, white. Popular actress now dying of tuberculosis; mother of Edgar. Also plays WILSON, a lawyer in the present, and LUCY, a white kid on the gothic side in the present.
DAVID POE, mid 20s, white, Edgar's father and Eliza's husband. Also plays JACK, an English professor in the present, and CAGE, a lawyer in the present.
EDGAR ALLAN POE, 40, white, inventor of the detective story and the gothic horror story, editor, poet. Also plays SOCIAL WORKER and JUDGE in the present.
JANICE BERRY, early 20s & late 30s, African American, a celebrated architect
