Breakdown

BOBBY & MATT; PASSING NOTES THROUGH LIFE follows the friendship of two Ohio boys from from Bobby's eighth birthday until their fifties. Think of it as a basic boy- meets-boy story, with some twists. Matt grows up to be a brigadier general; Bobby becomes a renowned gay writer. Their friendship survives (barely) Vietnam, Kent State, Watergate, gay marriage and"don’t ask don’t tell". In their forties, they finally realize the depth of their bond, and in their fifties, they become one of the first gay couples married in Massachusetts. The story is told very simply, with two actors seated at music stands reading from notes, letters and postcards through the years. Only at the end do they move together.

Seeking:

Matt:
Male, 35-60. Straight-arrow type with a strong sense of duty and honor. Grows up in a military household, goes to Catholic school, high school athletic star, becomes a brigadier general. Only after a failed marriage does he begin to realize he's gay. Actor needs to have great, subtle comic timing, as the character is more serious on the surface but has a mischievious sense of humor.

Bobby:
Male, 35-60. High-achieving social misfit who knows he's gay from a very early age. Goes to Yale, becomes a renowned gay writer and very active in the gay rights movement. Isn't really flamboyant, but definitely has a bit more flair than Matt. Great sense of humor. Actor needs impeccable comic timing.
